Good neighbors

Yesterday afternoon, my son was on his way home from work and his truck broke down about 15 miles away. He calls me and I tell him to sit tight, I'll be there in a bit. I no sooner get my boots on and he calls me back to tell me Mr **** stopped to help.

Mr *** owns a towing company and lives a little down the street. We've been neighbors for 17 years. He brings the truck and my son home, parks the truck in the alley beside my house and when I asked how much, he just "Nah, I was on my home anyway"

What could have been a $200 tow bill got brushed off because I got good neighbors.

The way it used to be, most of the time.

Neighbor has had trouble with his mower, almost every year.
And every time, hubby just mows for him.

It does general cost him though.
They absolutely must stop and have a beer, when up and mowing again.

It is still like that in most places, you just don't hear about it because it is not newsworthy.

I live in a rural area and neighbors and community look out for each other on a regular basis, to the point that it is thought of as normal. Even my crotchety, self proclaimed racist neighbor, helps out his neighbors when the need arises.

I swear to you this is the truth. He told one of our neighbors of color once, that he was helping him because he was a neighbor and neighbors look out for each other, even though he wished that his kind had not moved out here, but he was there now, so he was a neighbor, and he would treat him like one.

So even a bad neighbor can be a good one, sometimes.
