I am at a cross roads here. I am near the end of my time with Cyberpunk and was thinking of making a clean jump to the PS5. But after looking the PS5 is still not widely available. I asked my cousin how he got his PS5 apparently you have to be plugged into twitter all day and be ready for notifications from Best Buy, Wal mart, and Target, to see when they are in stock. And its also an online only order no in store purchase it seems. ( maybe I am wrong about that)

But it seems like getting a PS5 right now is like living in some willy wonka type atmosphere. I also saw that Far cry 6 is out. I am wondering what to do. should I go in and try to win the lottery and vie for a PS5 or bide my time with Far Cry 6 and wait it out until its a little bit easier to get a PS5?

Far cry 6 is not out yet, have to sink your teeth into something else. I'm about to go through Resident Evil 7 right now, before Village.

PS5 situation is ridiculous, same with PC parts though, I've given up.

kimetsu no yaiba .... Love Demon Slayer! 👍

I'm personally waiting another year for the PS5. I want to wait till the bugs get patched, the library grows and most importantly, the price drops.

Ditch the consoles, buy a PC.

Best advice I could ever give you.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is not a genuine gamer.

I’ve been considering this move as well, but my skills with a keyboard need work so I know it’s going to be a couple weeks of getting my butt kicked at Apex before I start improving.

Yeah, the PS5 rollout is ridiculous! I get a lot of # because my mom got me one. She had to have four computers open at once at different shops as well as tune in to those notices.

It’s still that way and I refuse to jump through any hoops, via Twitter or any media platform or follow any person or influencer in order to obtain a product. The fact that some people enforce this as an acceptable norm is beyond me “lULz yUo ShOlD hAvE BeEn FolLOwInG X TrY hArDER”

I won’t be buying one until I can walk into a store and buy one in cash.

This always happens with Playstation launches
Reasons to never buy early in the console cycle:
You can get one at half the current price in a couple years if not sooner
Not a lot of people will be playing on one for a while given the shortages
The title selection will be 15 times larger and connectivity/multi-player issues fixed
All the major launch bugs will be ironed out, games now are often broken at launch
Games will be updated, optimized and have more content (eg: No Man's Sky)
Games will be on sale or sold secondhand for a fraction of original price
Plus you'll yave all the reviews to know what to avoid wasting time and money on
Another version will be released by then, slimmer and faster as usual
If you don't have a 4k hdr tv, the image quality will match ps4 anyway until you do

Eta: ps5 have fan noise and comtroller drift issues right now also
They won't have it addressed for a couple production cycles, I'd say by holidays

edit on 19-2-2021 by ADAMandEVIL because: Eta fix

I don’t suggest buying a pc unless it suits your needs better then a console. I enjoy couch co op with the kid on his PlayStation 4 and frankly. He’s not ready for pc gaming quite yet. In my opinion pc gaming is a very individual kind of gaming albeit online coop generally your on it with your headset on and doesn’t provide much enjoyment for everyone else which is fine of coarse if it’s just you. My situation is different, then engaging I do enjoy pc gaming as well I don’t always suggest just anyone go out and get one.

The drought isn't just with PS5's - it's with Xbox Series consoles and enough PC parts to make building a gaming PC impossible.

It's a rough year to be a video game player - and for a variety of reasons... Covid causing higher than usual demand at the same time as effective production, another huge cryptomining boom, a myriad of complications in regard to the foundries where processors are made ( high demand, lack of competition, everyone save for Intel moving to smaller nodes - leading to lower yields, the launch of both major consoles temporarily hogging up silicon and foundry lines etc ) and, making it all worse, corporate avarice leading several of the tech companies to accept all of the above because this perfect storm of problems has caused acceptable pricing to jump dramatically and, well, if scalpers can get $1,500 for that new console or that mid-range GPU then that normalizes the idea in the minds of consumers... Meaning from here on out prices will only go up and we'll accept it and even be grateful for it.

As to the "PC > greater than a console" argument - true but misleading. Currently I can't build a PC that would perform on the level of a PS5 or Xbox Series console for anywhere near the price. In a year or two, assuming things normalize? Probably - but right now it's just not possible.

I haven't purchased a new-gen console yet but if there's still a shortage when I decide to, I'll utilize the same trick that I use to get my PC parts... Take a bit of time to buddy up with a manager at a local store and then ask if they'll set a unit aside for me and give me a call when stock comes in.

Im going back to my ps3 and hitting my ps1 collection up. Im a nostalgia gamer.

Really I think other then the Demons Souls remake, there is little incentive to get a PS5. Though that and the backwards capability to play all those PS4 games I missed some upscaled for the PS5, would be one of the reasons I would get one. But even if I could find one. Dont even have time for any of that any ways.

So...Ya. Wait it out. Is your best bet.

I was able to preorder mine first few days preorders started. Wario64 on Twitter is worth following if you want one. He posted that at a certain time Walmart preorders would start. Logged into my Walmart account and when the time game, went to buy and....sold out! Kept refreshing and suddenly it appeared in my cart. I'm loving it and no issues so far

Go to Walmart and talk to the manager about a rain check for the PS5. Most people don't realize they can get put on a rain check list now days and so the list will likely be very short. Also they've adopted a policy of only one PS5 per customer so that helps too. You could probably get one on the next shipment.

Buying anything right now is BS. I've given up on going to stores for anything other than groceries. What's the point of going to a store just to be told, "Oh. We don't have that in stock/That's online only. But I can order it, and you can come pick it up at the store. That, or you can have it delivered to your address."

Like wtf is the point of going to the store anymore? They don't jack squat. Then, you have to order # online and hope that it's actually what it is, or that it suits your needs, and if it doesn't you get to go through the joy of having to send it back and wait even longer to maybe hopefully get it right the next time.

And then there's dealing with the porch pirates.

mobile.twitter.com...
This guy does stock alerts for best buy, Amazon, ect..

Besides the faster loads times from the PS5's SSD, there isn't much need to get one as most games will be multi-generational for a good while.

Consoles are :
-way easier to use. (No long set ups, graphics adjustments, driver updates, or hardware upgrades)
-have more casual people playing multiplayer games
-Friends may not be PC gamers

PC is the ultimate gamer choice but i just found it too of hardcore experience myself. From facing against the next wanna-be pro gamers on multiplayer to spending hours configuring the right settings, it was not my favorite experience.
