I had a friend as a kid who caught a wild racoon one time. His family had a live trap they used for something, so we borrowed it and put it down by
the stream. Next day there was a racoon in it. Now, we knew this thing was wild, but my friend was convinced he could make it tame. I don't know
how old it was, but it didn't seem very happy.
He figured out how to feed and water this thing, fed it mostly cat food (which it loved). He had it for a while, and I kind of forgot about it
actually. He mostly kept it in his garage and we weren't supposed to go in there. But one day a couple months later he had it outside on the side of
his garage to get some sun and just be outside. I saw it and asked him how the "pet" was coming along. He said it was doing real good and was almost
tame.
So, I walked over to the cage and when I got about 3 feet away this thing let out this shrieking scream / snarl like sound and attached itself upside
down to the top of the cage spread eagle (facing me). It was snapping and biting the bars of the cage, and snarling, spitting and just generally
acting psycho like it would rip your face off and eat your spleen. My buddy says to me..."See? He's doing a LOT better now, dontcha' think??"
I just laughed and sarcastically agreed.
So the funny part was, finally they decided this thing really was wild and they should let it go. One night they rigged up a string and remotely
opened the cage door from inside their house. The racoon ran off, but came back a short while later. Now the damn thing wouldn't leave! That racoon
terrorized them and their dogs for weeks after that! Every time they'd go outside at in the evening or at night that thing would chase them, snarl at
them, make their dogs go nuts and generally just make life miserable for anyone.
I guess that was 'coon payback'!! LOL!
