China Barricades Part of Capital as Northern Outbreak Escalates

Beijing has imposed a lockdown of 1.7 million people in part of the Chinese capital as officials race to prevent a Covid-19 resurgence in the country’s northern region from seeping into its most important city.

We don’t get real data out of China. We only get what they feel like they have to say given the situation on the ground, but this looks bad again. It’s possible they have gotten the Brazil variant or another highly contagious variant spreading.

We are also at the time when travel for Chinese New Year gets in full swing, so that means this will most likely be yet another super spreader event.

Very strange, as the CCP claimed the virus had been totally eradicated in China months ago. Wonder where this batch came from then?

Funny you say that... last year when they locked down Wuhan but 5 million escaped before it was enforced I wrote this:

Everybody was Kung Flu flighting ✈️
The spread of the virus was fast as lightning
The prognosis was a little bit frightening
And China’s grip just kept on tightening

If it is just more contagious and not more deadly, what is the big deal?

Biden better lock us down now or he will be killing Americans.

All the other variants seem to just be more contagious.... but the Brazil variant appears to be more deadly too... this isn’t a new thing for Brazil... Dengue became more deadly there, and Zika was worse too. Something about that place

You know people were still leaving after lockdown in China. From what I read they were going so far as walking to other cities and places less restricted to get to places like Vietnam which wasnt restricted to leave yet. I assume we will see more of that again.

From what I understand the more contagious a virus is means that more of the virus can connect with the targeted cells that helps spread their joy in your body wider and faster. This overwhelms the immune system before it can rally the troops to defend the homeland. Which means you get more severe symptoms, faster. Something "more contagious" doesn't mean that just one virus invader has an easier time of infecting you. It means that LOTS more virus gets a foothold inside you. One virus getting into your system, might mean no symptoms. A thousand (or many more) infectious virus particles getting into your system and taking a beach head, well, it might mean a rough ride for you while you hope your immune system will win the battle. IMHO.

Yeah... it’s the “viral load” that comes with this because these variants have a protein spike that are even more efficient at entering cells , it’s more contagious because that efficiency results in a heavier viral load for both your immune system to deal with and also be released into the environment
