I think the ultimate solution is community based servers connected to each other through community owned "nodes" keep it local decentralized communication.
The government run servers opens the door for CCP style control. Ultimately that may not be the most efficient system but better then government run anything.. there is a reason the constitution limited government

I get your point but that would only be a crisis of serious trust issues and further manipulation of the masses. Gab CEO is building a new ecosystem for free speech. How successful he will be before a billionaire technocrat takes him down is a wait & see game. Maybe he'll partner with Trump & Co.
