Actually, it's because I am old enough to know that IRC is a whole lot more than JUST chat.

I legitimately miss the days when IRC was one of the main forms of communication. Primarily Efnet and Undernet were the two big ones I spent time on. Looking at Wikipedia you see an interesting line here that seems to be relevant to today.

It is around that time that IRC was used to report on the 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt throughout a media blackout.[12] It was previously used in a similar fashion during the Gulf War.[13] Chat logs of these and other events are kept in the ibiblio archive.[14]

Not gonna lie, we sent a lot of folks to the #bearcave channels when stupid questions were asked.

Just FYI -- pretty certain that's not actually Don Jr posting on Parler (apparently he doesn't yet have an account) and it even says in the account name "Donald Trump Jr OFFICIAL FAN PAGE".

Also I'd expect if any of the Trump's were actually involved in making a real social media network, the logo would look a hell of a lot better than that...

Why would so many people celebrate half the population of the country being muzzled? Real liberals when I was growing up would find the current climate horrific. I am glad there will be alternatives for people that still value the 1st Amendment to meet and discuss topics that are affecting them.

Lots of people underestimate the power of this type of network.

Heck, just with the TCP/IP protocol stack we have the tools we need to connect independently.
