Hackers have inserted malware inside an app offered for download by the Vietnam Government Certification Authority (VGCA).

Well, this may seem like inconsequential local news if you aren't involved with Vietnam, but it is instructive to note what can be done in terms of supply chain disruption. Today Vietnam, tomorrow your country?

Supply chain attacks through hacking are very effective and potentially highly destructive.

It's hard to know if this was carried out by nation, an organization, or even a single motivated hacker.

Pop quiz: what country to the north of Vietnam is its historical enemy and a current economic rival that would possibly benefit from a crippled Vietnamese supply chain? Think reeeeeeeel hard now. Maybe or maybe not...

Looking at what is happening in the world. I wonder if it it part of a larger narrative. The solar winds hacks where aimed at the largest 300 companies. The 5 branches of the military and several different intelligence agencies around the world.
The world economy is in tattars and it looks like it may well get worse. It is this all part of a mass economic world reset.

This further underscores my contention that we are in the throes of World War III and have been for some time.

This war is asymmetrical. It is non-traditional. It is digital. It is PSYOP intensive. People reject - even laugh at - the idea because they don't see bombs and tanks and invading armies. Those well may come at some point, but this war is now all about subtle control.

Could be the Chinese - we have moved a lot of imports from China to Vietnam due to the trade war and cost, so maybe they are trying to get Vietnam back.

The OP approves of all three above posts. Third post wins the pop quiz.

Ever hear that old Bob Dylan line, "Something's happening but you don't know what it is, do you Mr Jones?"

I fear the "something" is an asymmetrical WWIII. Unfortunately there are a lot of "Mr. Jones" out there...in the crosshairs.

How to win a war: Get it started and well underway before the adversary even realizes there is a war. Sun Tsu on 'roids.

Look to New Zealand and how the cherry market supply chain has been secured. The cherry company partnered with Techrock using the Tael ecosystem to protect from counterfeiting. They can track from the point of production, manufacturing, packaging and exporting.
This was testing the set up of this technology and really wasn't a huge concern about cherries.
The supply chain, particular where the product is manufactured, is very susceptible to hacks and China is ahead on protecting their imported goods. Now they can go on the offense and disrupt other countries supply chains in an effort to reestablish their dominance.
Seems obvious that they do not want countries like Vietnam to become seriously established manufacturing hubs.

Few people realize how deep the animosity between China and Vietnam runs. They fought a war after the US left Vietnam but even deeper, historically they have never been friendly.
