Music crosses boundaries , a truth shown to full effect in the Early 90's as Russia started to come in from the Cold and music fans were allowed to
see their favourite bands live , Metallica were then as they are now Monsters Of Rock and the effect on the crowd on seeing this storming performance
shows the power of music and the greatness of Metallica.
It's sad to see how far we've regressed in the time since.
Metallica had a three song set but what songs.
Enter Sandman
Creeping Death
Fade To Black
Harvester Of Sorrow , different show same year and country.
That's what 1.6 million people looks like.

Seen Metallica a half dozen times, never a bad show..some interesting ones though. One had John Marshal from Metal Church playing guitar for
James(broken arm)..did a good job..love Metal Church too. Another show, a cable going from the stage to the booth(middle of the floor) caught
fire/stated arcing pretty bad..boy did people scatter! It took 40 mins to get back on.
Nah, I'll take this as my lasting memory of the last time Metallica was great even though I did see the ...AJFA tour in Phoenix and Vegas with the
trilogy started with this Monster's Of Rock show in L.A.
Everything after ...AJFA is a waste of my time.
Here's the Cliff's Notes version of what happened in July 1988. This is where they decided to turn the power off, which helped the situation not at
all as everyone just got more wild.
Here's the full show. You can see the audience clearing out in the sections shown, like a colony of ants they are so small. I got there just a few
minutes before all this bedlam really got into full swing but mob mentality is a funny thing. It looked like that scene in Dances With Wolves where
they are hunting buffalo and they can barely see what they are doing due to the ground being trampled.
I could barely see the people just a few yards away from me. Yet, I went in, like a fool. I barely survived. There were times where my feet never
touched the ground and I moved fifty or a hundred feet.
They were the second band of five and stole the show as evidenced in this video. My 100,000 or so friends tore up that arena - I was just trying to
stay alive. I've seen some memorable shows but this one is unlike any other. So many people, so freaking hot, so drunk, rioting and tearing up the
joint, Metallica showcasing their new bass player Newstead after Cliff's tragic demise and so many people didn't see the show they put on which was
marvelous.

Funny how a electrical short can delay a show for forty minutes yet a riot only get's about five. They never should have pulled the plug that day
anyway as everyone was getting along in their riotous ways. They just made it worse by doing that.
I once saw Overkill have numerous electrical problems in a small club, that was fun. Also Aerosmith when the Hard Rock Cafe opened here in Vegas. They
were playing in a tent and didn't come on until around midnight and we had bolted way before that. id hear Dream On from a few miles away, that was
kinda cool.
