Cold tonight?

Okay, so what am I looking at? Looks like some kind of an improvised shelter in the snow (warm wet snow I might add). In any case, that's cool! Other than elk hunting, I don't do a whole lot of winter camping, so I don't have any pictures. However, like I've said, I've worked many a day and night in frosty conditions so I like coming home to a nice warm house and bed.

As for the substance comment, I don't really need to prove anything to myself or anyone else. I know what I've done and that's all that really matters.

My brother and I went out and for the first time, I brought water and drank 3 liters.
It was rough but we got it done.
Tredging through 3 feet of snow sucks, on the way out, I was chest deep in a ravine...we got out and another trip done.

Am not trying to prove anything either, this is just what I do....the cold means nothing if you have it together.
Its an improvised shelter we had to put up in a few minutes because we were going to freeze if we didn't.

The idea was, if we wrap it in plastic and get fire, the fires heat will come through the plastic.

We woke up wet, it didn't work as planned LOL

The last I was out, I told my brother that I just wanted to lay down and sleep, I slept for close to 14 hours and woke up to this.

I live only 1 state south of Wyoming, in Colorado. I moved here from Buffalo, NY back in 1980. The winters have seemed to be steadily getting milder ever since. Every year the locals say "Get ready. We're due for a nasty winter." But then... nothing. Sure, you get some minor snowstorms, but after a day or two it all melts away with temps in the 40's and 50's. Nothing like Buffalo were there would be plowed mountains of snow that would never melt away. Winter would come and there'd still be snow mounds from last winter. It was crazy. I do miss it a little bit.

But yeah, the weather in Colorado is pretty nice year round. Never too hot, never too cold. Shhh, but don't tell anyone. We have enough people moving here as it is.

Colorado also. Fixin' to get outta' here though. Probably pull up stakes in another 4 years or so. Headed back to Wyoming to retire. Screw this state! It's been completely Kalifornicated.

I agree, the winters here are more like what I would call fall. It gets cold at night sometimes in the winter, but then it'll be 50 the next day. Don't even get that much snow really. We get probably more than most where we are, but we haven't been dumped on like '06 since, well, '06. That was one hell of a storm. Snowed in for dang near a week tryin' to get it cleared. Had snow piles 12-14 feet high on both sides of the road, and that was all the higher my tractor or skidsteer would dump. As soon as we'd get it cleared out the wind would pick up and drift it all back in again, and then it was 2x as hard to clear.
