While members of the Electoral College—with the exception of Maine and Nebraska—are pledged to vote for the highest vote getter in their state, most states do nothing to stop them from breaking that pledge.

The point is if you are one of these people you might have seen enough evidence that your State vote was compromised, you might feel as an American you have to do something about it. And that something could be not to cast a vote for either candidate, which mean neither would get to 270.
This would trigger the one vote per State reaction.
I would go so far to say that Trump should offer protection to any Electoral College member that needs to vote their conscience.

But before they vote they should review some websites to get informed.

Website #1

Website #2

Dec. 14, 2020: Electors vote in their states.
Again, federal law sets a deadline for electors to meet in their states and vote for president and vice president.
The Monday after the second Wednesday in December – Dec. 14 this year – is the date the electors will meet.
They meet at the places selected by their state’s legislature.Voting on paper ballots, they cast one vote for president and a separate vote for vice president. The votes are counted and then the electors sign six certificates that include a list of the electoral votes for president, and a separate list of electoral votes for the vice president. These are the Certificates of the Vote. The Certificates of the Vote are paired with the Certificates of Ascertainment, sealed and certified. The certificates are sent by registered mail to:The president of the Senate (the vice president of the United States)The secretary of the state in the state in which the electors met (he or she gets two copies)The archivist of the United States (he or she gets two copies)The judge of the U.S. district court in the district where the electors met

27 States have laws requiring them to vote for the highest vote getter of that state.

And maybe the states allowed to vote with their conscience will realise Trump is trying to dupe everyone and that he needs to go.

And they could rightfully challenge the validity of the "highest vote" due to the massive anomalies this election.

Thus Trump needs to get out in front and guarantee them a presidential pardon if they vote their conscience, saving them from any legal prosecution from any laws on the books.

Looks like they did in some states and have lost all those challenges so far.

Maybe he could offer them money too. Wouldn't be any less illegal.

Didn't we have this exact discussion 4 years ago?

How did it go? "Please, the electives HAVE to realize that Trump cannot be the answer! They must listen to their conscious/moral compass/whatever!"
And you guys were "NOOO! THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW THE VOTIINGS! TRUMP WAS VOTED IN, THEY CANNOT CHANGE THAT!!"

Same this time.

Presidential pardons don't cover violations of state law.

Don't expect logical consistency to arise from zealotry.

The rules are always for the other side.

Where do they get the electoral voters from. Are they independent or party people?

They're typically 100% party hack loyalists.

Vote for Biden since you're a Democrat and Michigan binds Electors to the popular vote recipient.

Gosh.

Maybe someone should take this to court?

Nice thought but the electors are chosen by the political parties.
They choose people that are super loyalists to the party.

Biden chose his electors.
Trump chose his.

Whoever wins the pop vote is the person who's electors get to vote.

You think enough dem loyalists will switch and vote trump because of a few meetings with a handful of repub legislatures?

No matter how tight you grasp onto them...those straws just keep slipping through your fingers.
Let go.
It's done.
Trump is a has-been.

It was. Ruled on in July based on the 2016 election.

Their ruling was that states 'can' require the EC to follow the popular vote. However, there is nothing in the Constitution that states they have to. Interpretation.

The EC used to be tied directly to state legislature but his was changed and has been unchallenged for over 200 years.

“When the Constitution is silent, authority resides with the States or the people,” Thomas wrote.

Close to being a moot point...since this will be the last election to use the electoral voting system.
Kamala will be in, pack the court, pull the plug on that problematic electoral system, and the coastal regions of the US will subjugate the fly-over country.
The world of "Hunger Games" is but 2 generations away.

To remove the Electoral College you need a Constitutional Amendment.
