I saw this on YouTube and just had to share. It is footage dating back to 1970. I suggest watching the video before reading about the incident.

A widely reported case of an exploding whale occurred in Florence, Oregon, in November 1970, when the Oregon Highway Division (now the Oregon Department of Transportation) blew up a decaying sperm whale with dynamite in an attempt to dispose of its rotting carcass.

But..But...fun....Blowing things up is fun. Sure, there was a squashed car, but everyone watching got a great experience, something they will never forget.
