According to a joint analysis by WFP and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization in October, 20 countries “are likely to face potential spikes in high acute food insecurity” in the next three to six months, “and require urgent attention.”... ...

... but the outlook for 2021 is grimmer, with more people and nations on the brink. The WFP head identifies famine, starvation, destabilization, and migration as "icebergs" that threaten the global Titanic, so to speak.
With the world focused on COVID, the issue of starvation seems to be flying under the radar.

Actually sobered me up, you are correct, they are apparently already short on some food stuff's but I doubt it will harm there party members since it can not be as bad as the famines Mao caused during his cultural revolution, though you know it could be an impetus for them to try to fish more food in other people's water, to bully other nations so this could trigger some serious international incident's.
Add to this the growing tension between Egypt and Ethiopia and Sudan due to the huge damn being built there that will destroy the annual cycle of the Nile river and possibly cause famine in Egypt.
In 2020, locusts have swarmed in large numbers in dozens of countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, Eritrea, India, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

We probably won't have these issues in the US. But I still think its a good year to plant a victory garden. You can use the seeds from some produce you buy at the market. But squash, melons and others cross pollinate. And some things are hybrid so you won't get a true product. It might be a good time to add seed packets to the stocking stuffer list for Christmas. Butternut squash keeps three months and is a great winter veg.

...“We’re very, very, very concerned” that with deferred debt payments for low- and middle-income countries resuming in January, new lockdowns, and the rippling economic impact, “2021’s going to be a very bad year.”

The WFP, recently awarded the Nobel Peace Peace Prize, says catastrophic famine was averted in 2020 thanks to timely intervention and money, but the outlook for 2021 is grimmer, with more people and nations on the brink. Subject: Mounting Suicides and National Policy for Farmers
Dear Shri Swaminathan,
I am an 84 year old natural/organic farmer with more than six decades of personal experience in growing a wide range of food crops. I have, over the years, practised several systems of farming, including the chemical method in the fifties – until I soon saw its pitfalls.
I say with conviction that it is only by organic farming in harmony with Nature, that India can sustainably provide her people abundant, wholesome food. And meet every basic need of all – to live in health, dignity and peace.

I read China is expecting 100 Trillion....yes with a T....lol
The massive floods were mainly in their most rich rice areas, so they will be buying up the world in rice. Then of course the pandemic...

I think China is going to be hit extremely hard... Biblical Floods, pandemic, locus... Their food crops were basically wiped out...

don't know how much rice there will be for china to buy. the second typhoon to go through the same area in under 2 weeks, has flooded a good portion of northern Luzon (in some places 3 stories deep). where a lot of rice is grown. and to make matters even worse considering whole towns, farming areas, even pretty much a couple of provinces completely flooded, a lot of rice storage was also destroyed by the flooding. as well as apparently also causing flooding in Vietnam another major rice growing country. so not only does that mean that there is less rice for china to buy since both countries are rice exporters. but it also means that they may also need to import a lot more rice themselves.

The PI got hit with 3 back to back typhoons with one Cat 5. The third one hit my wife's province and the flooding was the worst every seen, and I mean no one has seen anything even close to what they got.

i know, since i am in manila. a good chunk of the people i know come from the cagayan area. so i have seen all sorts of pictures of the flooding there. and flooding in and around manila. far worse than ondoy in 2009. of course the situation was made much worse up north due to badly designed dam works. they had to open the flood gates. which of course drains into the river which was already severely flooding. something that needs to be dealt with. i'm not even sure at this point if everyone has even been rescued yet since due to the strong currant in the flooding, they could not use boats in many areas. seriously i have never seen flooding on this scale anywhere in the world before.
