I'm not sure it's because of right and left politics.
I blame the unions.

The pension plans from decades ago are not financially sustainable.
That and many other reason that are not in the parties control like manufacturing and tourism.

True, but there are states that compete for business and there are states that run businesses out. People mostly want to move out of Illinois, im tied here for a bit by family. I hear people talk about growing our way out of debt, but no start up business wants in here...

The NY gov tried to get Amazon in, and got shouted down by AOC and other libs... Its not just NY though. You elect stupid people, they do stupid things.

Science shows that Democrats tend to run their states into the ground. Is there a psychological reason behind it?

Ranking the States by Fiscal Condition 2018 Edition (most unstable / nearing insolvency #50; least unstable / most solvent #1)

For the fifth and final year, a new study from George Mason University ranks the 50 states according to their financial condition. The study measures how well states can meet short-term and long-term bills by examining their financial statements.

www.mercatus.org...

#50 - Illinois ... Democrat governor
#49 - Connecticut ... Democrat governor
#48 - New Jersey ... Democrat governor
#47 - Massachusetts ... Republican governor
#46 - Kentucky ... Democrat governor
......
#5 - Oklahoma ... Republican governor
#4 - Florida ... Republican governor
#3 - Tennessee ... Republican governor
#2 - South Dakota ... Republican governor
#1 - Nebraska ... Republican governor

This is a chicken and egg situation.

Democrats don't run places badly, they get elected when places go bad.

If you live in a high income area who do you vote for, Democrats who are going to tax you, or Republicans who won't?

logic for the current and previous administrations? One must be able to see past their own finger when pointing it at others.

Blame the fat guy!
I guess being a decent attorney doesn't always translate into being a good politician.

No, I didn't blame Fatty Boombah, I merely made the point that using the Original Poster's methodology it's actually Christie he should be blaming.

There was no mention of previous administrations in the Original Post, it was solely indicating current governors when the data was from 2018 and there may have been Republican governors like I pointed out.

Its a different mindset altogether, not just the Governor. Democratic house in GA for years, but they didnt over spend and run the state into the ground like northern Dims. They try to bring business in instead of run it out like AOC. Heaven forbid someone make a dollar in this country

Democrats funnel money to unions. Unions funnel money back to Democrats.

So sure, blame unions. But the actual problem is Democrats.
