As far as I know, it's called a "candle topper". It's a metal ring which goes over the top of the candle and causes the entire candle to burn hotter.

I actually have one of these, but I never knew what it was called. That thing gets freaking HOT!!!!!! But it does keep the wax in check.

Thanks for reminding me about it. I've lost it now, but I can get another one.

1/3 of a candle left?

I love candles, and Yankee candles, too. I have gotten guff from people because it's not pure like soy but petroleum-based, but when I burn them, and they finally expire, I have no more than 1/4" of wax left, if that. Good enough for me. There is this one candle I bought from Amazon, and I LOVE the scent, but it burns horribly, with a horrible wick: it tunnels, barely gives off light, and about halfway through the jar it's done.

I've thought about using a warmer to remelt the entire thing and add another wick, which I have also thought of doing with random waxes I have left over (and I have a LOT of random expired candles.

Yankee are expensive, but true, most good candles are (8oz candles average at $15-20 on Amazon).

Recently, I stumbled upon Woodwick candles, and I really like them: great scents, burn well so far.

Woodwick IS Yankee Candle...isn't it???

I thought they were one and the same.

I also thought this is why a lot of customers are complaining about the "new" Yankee candles, and about how they don't "throw" as much. They used to be beeswax, but now I think they're made elsewhere. Lot's of complaints now about the scent being far less.

Yeah, Woodwick is part of the Yankee Co. brand, just different wax blend. I think they are more pure than the petro-based standard YC, and the one I have burns a lot stronger and brighter; the wax is different, too.

Woodwick or YC? The WW I bought last week was so strong my eyes stung the first hour or so I burned it.

My YCs still give off the same degree of scent, that I can tell..Haven't noticed any change.

I was just reading reviews on YC. That's where I saw it.

I ordered one, used to be one of the stronger ones (balsam fir). I'll report back when I get it.

The one I have at the moment is a honey crisp apple cider, but I think it's an old one. Smells pretty good.

I like the woodsy / fall ones.

Yeah, I really have only a few YC faves: Silver birch (nonseasonal, manly), Autumn leaves (and similar fall ones), balsam/fir (all the conifer scented ones, really, for Christmas/winter).

The woodwick I got are Fireside, and lavender and cedar, both which smell amazing.

Look forward to your report. I have a couple YC coupons, so I need to grab a few.

I recently found out that when you have a candle that puts out a layer of soot on your furnishings, it's a #take candle. Thank goodness it wasn't my house that got dusted, but it was my sister's. Poor thing, spent days cleaning it. I did a little searching and it is due to poor quality products being used in the manufacturing. And sure enough, her purchase was from a home candle maker.
Thanks to the National Candle Association for this information, though not directly on topic.
