The main Tarot Archetypes tell the story of the Journey of the Soul through Life, as seen by the Fool.

One begins and ends as a Fool.

In the beginning, One is unknowing and filled with dreams and hope.

In the end, the Fool steps over the precipice with a silent smile upon his face.

What Secret does He know?

I've always been fond of the image of the King's Fool. ^_^

The Knight is Mighty with his armor and his sword and his skill.
The Priest is Wise, having seen the truth within the Light.
The King is Powerful, having command over all.

But the Fool is Greatest!
He shares riddles with glee.
He is satisfied with the passing smile or laughter or curious eye.
He makes himself a Fool, and shares his stories as he pleases.
What secrets does he Know?

I say we're all Fools!
Only a Fool would dare seek to Know God.
An Act in futility.
Yet a nobler One there are none.

Number Zero...nobody is as cool as the fool.

The whole deck plays out the fools journey. Each of the major arcana is an "aspect" of the fool or a stage of development in his journey.

The Hermit with his lamp held high was always my favorite part of the fool's journey.

Being both the end and the beginning, alpha and omega, the zero (fools number) is also infinity. Zero and infinity are not numbers: they are qualities. Thus unlike the other cards the fool is simultaneously zero and infinity, a state of simultaneous nothing and everything.

Like white light that is fractured into specific colors by a prism, the fool can't be pinned down or specified like the other cards. Blue is blue, red is red, the hermit is the hermit and the hierophant is the hierophant. But white light can't be seen, other than as generalized luminescence. The fool can't be defined, other than as he who takes the journey.

It always seems to come back to a luminosity and an emptiness. The fool's emoty head allows him to suit every situation, to assume any form. His luminosity is the dynamic energy that propels him on the journey from zero to infinity.

I read this post of yours when it was first posted but could not reply. I found it charming and full. Upon reading your post this Sunday morning, I clicked on your posts and it took me first here. Good stuff huh?

A world filled with Knights would lead to unending war.
A world filled with Priests would lead to judgment and corruption.
A world filled with Kings would lead to betrayal and domination.

A world filled with Fools sounds like paradise to me.
