Do you do updates when they come out, or choose the day you want to install?

We had issues with hours and hours and hours of install activity.
This month we picked the day and it went much smoother and much faster.
Of course, that is only one month...and we'll see how it goes in the future.

Also, how old is your laptop?
And it is a regular hard drive or SSD?

Open a command prompt
copy the below line in and press enter
sfc /scannow
DO NOT interrupt it .
then restart

open a command prompt
copy the below line in and press enter
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
DO NOT interrupt it .

restart

What does the second DISM thing do?
Is it for any and all cleanup issues????

DISM (at least with those arguments) goes out and verifies the Windows installation integrity vs. Microsoft's deployment servers.
Good thing to remember.
And...remember my Windows Repair All in One.
That is my secret when things get truly desperate....

I am free.

I am now running linux mint 20 and after a short learning curve i have found linux runs about 4 times faster.

There are a number of good Linux tutorials out there for people that want to convert to linux.

Learn coding????

You just input your problem into the internet and copy and paste the command-line inputs you need right into terminal and hit enter.

One of the best features of Linux Mint is it’s super-engaged user community. If you need support, posting on the forums is a great way to get help.

I prefer Ubuntu, but all the distros have something going for them. Theres a distro for everyone, imo, from mint to elementary to kali to ubuntu. Trying out a few isnt a bad idea.

I find Linux (Ubuntu in my case) to be vastly superior to windows with the one exception of software compatibility. I just cant get some of my stuff to work right.

Other than that, I do think a lot of folks are intimidated by it and believe you need to be an expert to use it. Its just not true.. I genuinely suggest that everyone create a USB boot drive with one of the distros to try it out. For the vast majority, its an OS that will have next to zero issues.

In a "shocking" twist of events, a user can even choose not to update their OS without resorting to shenanigans (like on W10).
