He has calmed down now. There has been reports of coyotes alot lately in my neighbohood so that could be an explanation. But I thought it a bit strange with my skin crawling just a min or two before the pup began this.

Your "skin crawling" could well be a reaction to danger you picked up on subconsciously. Maybe a faint (to a human) scent of coyotes, skunks, whatever it may be. Not strong enough to notice consciously - just enough for subtle detection enough to trigger the internal subtle red flags that encourage you to gdt out of "danger" (even if you're not truly in danger.) "Spidey sense."
