Lost city uncovered in tsunami???

I couldnt find this on the site so i hope this could be useful. Apparantly the National Institute of Oceanography of India is managing the site at the moment. Link

Makes sense considering the World ocean levels have changed many times over the course of history.

To the witnesses on the coast of Mahabalipuram that day the first sign of the impending inundation was an unparalleled recession of the sea that revealed on the seafloor several square miles of city with streets, houses and temples just as the old stories insisted. Then the water rose rushing ashore, swirling through the modern town and ruins and then, as it withdrew again, it pulled thousands of tons of sand with it to deeper water and left revealed along the beach scattered pieces of monumental sculpture from the underwater city.

I find it very unlikely that when the beach waters receded, pre-tsunami, that an entire city was revealed, at least if there have been previous attempts at under water archaeology in the area and imaging technology scans. Either way, it certainly warrants checking out.

Wow a sacred dog... Thats actually cool, think about it, people used to prey to the canine, now people cater to thier every needs. Intresting ideology... The Dogs are the superior specieces!!!!

Looks like a temple dog but those are usually chinese not indian. what city could this be?

the city you're talking about is actually from the seventh century and it has been described by british travellers who frequented the place centuires ago.what you saw in the pic was supposed to be an entrace to a temple and it is a lion.it's not a reptile or a dog.it's not usual to have a lion at the entrance of the hindu even now.if you come to india you'll notice a lot of it even in modern temples fashioned after the old ones.
it is a pagoda and if you notice the pagodas in south asia and the buudhist monastries of the ancient times,you'll notice amazingly how they seem to look alike.to explain that i have to tell you about how hinduism is spread more than it is now in the times before.though it declined you'll find a lot architectural similarities.try myanmar and thailand and compare them to the hindu monuments of 3-4 century AD.
of course who can ever forget the buddhist influnce on china and far east?

Do you guys believe diving teams will be sent to investigate more of the nearby ocean?

looks like another statue is inside of the "dog-like" statue. Here's a small zoom up of it. To me, if it is anything, it looks like a buddha statue maybe.

I hope they will but searching with diveteam can be a very very hard project. Ive been searching for lost wrecks and caves underwater in really good visability (10m (30f)) and its hard even with +1500 dives ;-). They best way is probably to search for shadows in thet water with a helicopter close to the shore and then search with an underwater radar. First after that they can send divers or ROV´s down to have a look.

There were lost ruins found in India recently, I read about it in the newspaper. They had the same pic posted above with the ppl staring at the statue. The article said that some of the elders remember their grandparents talking about a lost city in the area this one was found. Unfortunately, since that's the only source I have for it, I can't provide it, but I'm sure a google search will turn up a bunch of stuff on it. I doubt its a very big city, but you never know. I hope they send some divers down to check it out, it sounds really cool.
