The cuddlefish in all its glory. It is a truly alien species...the disco lights are a dead giveaway.

Look up cuddlefish disco there are many many aweso.e videos. That is in fact the of 2 sea creatures that terrify and amaze me at the same time. The other one I dont like to talk about it involves urine.

If you ever see a cuddlefish, beware, it's trying to hypnotize you. They are too good at camouflage to be seen if they don't want you to.

Phage is right. It's a cuttlefish. Everyone else lost final Jeopardy because they cannot spell.

They prefer to be called Dennis.

I didn't ask why, and they didn't explain.

ETA: I learned this, while in the Air Force.

I also learned that there are FAR more aircraft in the oceans, than submarines in the sky.

Dennis gave me this knowledge... so... there's that.

It's blood is blue, though, so perhaps they have a bit of Smurf in there?

Yes it's the blackish thing that is in the shape of the Op image... That is how it looked at first (disc like) before it began to change into the sphere and swim near the camera flashing it's bioluminescence signals...

I hadn't found any cuttlefish videos similar.

It's definitely some sort of cephalopod. It ends up looking like a cuttlefish as the others say, but this video of a mimic octopus gives you some idea of just how mobile their tentacles can, how inventive they can be with them, and how much they can manipulate their personal color to appear different.

This one is an octopus, but nothing says that a species of cuttlefish couldn't figure out similar tricks. They certainly have the ability to manipulate color.
