Will there be an interim leader ? What's the process to get a new leader and is there someone there ready for the position ?

No successor determined as yet.

Sounds like he headed the warning to step down as the east prepares to put in place a leader who is not going to be an allie of the west.

One who will help the east consolidate it's influence.

Now china will make their move.

whoever his successor is they'd wanna stockpile on spare underpants if you smell what i'm cooking.

He-or she-are walking into a minefield, with all the crises that are happening right now, the next leader will have to be very resilient, now is definitely not the time to lose resolve as the nation is looking to you for leadership, being a leader and all.

This will be interesting but I don't see Japan falling under China's influence unless it's by subterfuge. They are solid American ally, they were very pleased North Korea stopped lobbing missiles over their air space. Hong Kong isn't exactly a shining example of China's dominance.Not to mention they have a long and bitter history. Definitely think America's got to have assets in Japan to keep an eye on things.

Except for toilet paper a few months ago.

He still will be in charge until the new prime minister is elected.
Right now there's about eight people that are powerful enough to fulfill the prime minister's job but they have to be approved.
Not sure how long this will take place.
But from what I gather from the people that are in that power they don't really look like they're very strong on American presence in Japan.
Most of them are in their late 60s 70s and they really are not really gung ho about Americans having their military in Japan.
so this is going to be a very challenge for the president whoever it may be in the future.
These old Japanese politicians believe me they live in the old times of the samurai spirit.
Prime minister Abe did go to one of the American music universities so he has a much more closer contact with the American society and the American people.
