Hey ATS!

Today we have another proof that confirms the legitimacy of the Bible and the biblical times.

Israel Antiquities Authority says remains of Egyptian citadel, built to repel Philistines while Israelites settled elsewhere in the country, will be opened to public free of charge

A 3,200-year-old Canaanite citadel where epic battles were fought during biblical times has been unearthed near the southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced Sunday.

The citadel was eventually abandoned by the Egyptians, leading to the destruction of many Canaanite cities, probably at the hands of the Philistines.

The 12th century BCE fort next to Kibbutz Gal On and the Guvrin Stream, some 70 kilometers (40 miles) south of Jerusalem, was built by the Egyptians, who ruled the area at the time, as a defense against the Philistines, in an era corresponding to the period of the biblical Book of Judges, the IAA said in a statement.

According to IAA archaeologists, Saar Ganor and Itamar Weissbein, the structure that was unearthed is 18 meters (59 feet) long and 18 meters wide, with towers in its four corners for a lookout.

Inside is a yard with brick paving and columns, flanked by rooms. Hundreds of pieces of earthenware were discovered in the rooms, some of them whole, including many bowls produced in an Egyptian style. One bowl and a mug were likely used for worship, the archaeologists said.

“The citadel we discovered offers a glimpse into the geopolitical reality described in the Book of Judges, where the Canaanites, Israelites and Philistines battle each other,” Ganor and Weissbein were quoted as saying in the statement.

“The Gal On Citadel was seemingly built as part of a Canaanite-Egyptian attempt to deal with the new geopolitical situation.

According to the statement, similar Egyptian fortresses from the same period have been discovered elsewhere in Israel.

The site will be opened to the public in a ceremony on Tuesday in collaboration with KKL-JNF. Visits will be free of charge.

Speaking of the Bible, I think it's important to review the revelations as we exit 2020. We live in biblical times, at the end of which evil will be removed and humanity will enter the age of Aquarius.

No, we don't. We have proof ONE of the many stories in the Old Testament MAY be based on historical fact. This discovery is nothing new as many Old Testament stories have been found to be based on the same sort of thing: Jericho is but one additional example.

That's it. It has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the rest of the Old Testament and particularly absolutely nothing to do with the New Testament. Nothing to do with Jesus.

cool site IDK about proof of bible anything unless we find the undead corpse of Jesus making clay birds fly and magic stuff. It is unfortunate they only speculate about the structure, it would be really cool if they found evidence of battles or at least weapons and dead soldiers around the tower walls.

Many People don't want to know because it would mean they have to actually do something, change their behavior.
If the sorting work going on was real to some they would be the chaff waiting to burn unless they actually made a better decision. So much easier to say the whole thing is a story.

Mark 4-12
so that, "'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'"

You don't get a "vote" for scientific truth any more than you gate a "vote" that 2+2+4.

If in a thousand years time archeologists unearth a Spider-Man comic, is that evidence there was web-slinger in New York, just because it was set in a real place?

The history here is cool, no doubt. We should be careful of what conclusions we derive from it though.

Erm, it's proof that the Egyptians were a major part of the local politics and had a major military presence in the region. Where on earth does it prove anything about the Israelites?

Very interesting. It's too bad the bible was written and rewritten by mediocre religious minded intelligences.

Im not sure why people put so much energy into understanding it.

Kinda like finding that Atlanta had in fact been burned down and was a real place and based on that determining that the book, Gone with the Wind was a history book.

Nice archaeology find thou.

The Egyptian presence in the area - all the way up to Syria at one point - tends to get overlooked at times. You're right though - it's a great find.
