Captain America did! It was a battle between the Red Group and the Blue Group.

Iron man was the Red Communist and Captain America is the Blue Republicans.

The Democrats created the Ku Klux Klan, and yet the Republicans were the Union.

Because the Union was Republicans, and yet the Union was centered in the Northeast, modern day Democrat areas.

The Democratic Party, well they didn't exist in the Civil War era. They must've been the evil Confederates because Democrats = evil.

It's pretty easy to answer, the Republican Party was originally the party of Progressivism. The change began during the Depression when they began to oppose Roosevelt's policies and the Democrat Party began to fracture into what would become the Dixiecrats and the Northern Progressive wings of the party.

The Republican Party wasn't that progressive back then, they probably would have been in the Socialist Party.

If I remember correctly, the civil war was prevented in the first episode of the Back to the Future cartoon from the early 90s.

It was prevented when the opposing sides began recognizing each other as family, the rest of the details are fuzzy.
