What is the moon made of?

I know it might sound dumb but does the moon have a heated core like earth or is it just a dead peice of rock.

Everybody knows the moon is made of CHEESE!


Really I think it's just a compilation of dust and rocks......

dead rock for the last 3.5 billion years or so. no air little frozen water .no geo activity at all. But on a more fasanting note a moon of jupiter called ieo
does have activity in the form of valcanios but not like earths they dont have lova flows they eroupt Sulfer .this moon is littlery turned inside out from tidal forces because of jupiters immence gravity.

Its Io not Ieo and its erupt, not eroupt and try literally instead of litterly or how about fascinating not fasanating, or lava not lova and how about volcanos instead of volcanios... just a little bit of English class for you. And by no means i would’ve given you a brake if your location or something said Switzerland or Austria or something, but your name is simcity4rushhour and i dont think they make it in many languages...

And by the way, the moon is rock and dust and for your information, there is water ice in some deep craters near the Moon's south and north poles which are permanently shaded. Check this site out; it’s the best out there:

The moon, as I understand it, is composed of the same materials as the earths crust and possibly mantle.

The only wamth in the moons core could be from pressure. But otherwise the moon is probly made of carbon silicates similar to earths crusts. Usually the only technonic activity is caused be asteroid impacts and tidal stresses.

50 years ago men thought the moon was made out of cheese. When they landed they never found any. Man hasn't been back since.

Two words: lighten up. Not everyone speaks English well, and even those that do occasionally have poor spelling. I could understand the post, and I'm sure you could well enough too since you corrected it.

Anyway, as many have stated, the Moon is primarily made up of silicate compunds similar to those on Earth. Why is this? Because the way the Moon most likely formed was from a body about the size of Mars colliding with a still forming Earth. A chunk of the Earth broke free, forming the Moon. Smaller pieces collided with the Earth and Moon, the majority of which have been washed away on Earth. The Moon though, with no atmosphere and only past geological activity hs retained nearly all of its craters.

There used to be geological activity on the Moon, but that process ceased about 2.5 billion years ago. The insides of the Moon were very hot due to pressure, and eventually lava spewed forth from under the surface. This is what created the maria (dark grep splotches) on the surface of the Moon.

What I've wondered though, do you guys think there could be like caverns underneath the surface? I'm not sure how big...but could there be like caves or something?

Caves usually require processes to create them, such as dissolution of rock material by water or other chemical reactions.

Not too long ago people also started to realize that microbes of various sorts were probably very important to the formation of caves and such also. The idea being that they help break up the rock material also.

It's break, and that isn't even mentioning grammatical mistakes.

The moon is actually a man's head. The haze? His hair. People will tell you it's atmospheric interference, scattering. Don't believe it. And the dark side of the moon? Well, let's just say the sun don't shine there...

I think it is a big geode. If you look at how geodes are formed, then read a few of the theories about how the moon was formed, it makes sense to me to think that the moon is a geode of sorts.
