We're in new territory," says one senior officer, the entire post-9/11 paradigm of emergency planning thrown out the window. The officer jokes, in the kind of morbid humor characteristic of this slow-moving disaster, that America had better learn who Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy is.

Air force top brass are without doubt the best of the best people , 100 per cent reliable , totally level headed and very intelligent.

General Terrence

Take a look at his picture , which as usual speaks a thousand words .

Look in his eyes , he's a kind and considerate person who takes people , everybody , for who they are and values them upon what they have to offer , not what he expects of them . You'd do what says because you liked him and had proper respect not because you were scared of him or his discipline . Now he'd kill you , but only if it was absolutely necessary to do that , and all other options had been exhausted. I'd trust him , definitely.

In this article , is described what contingency plans there are if government continuity comes under threat. It describes how all uniformed personnel are confined to bases , staying healthy and good to go.
Of course some are on missions and those relate to being prepared for any problem that arises from the Corona event .

Coronavirus is ... new territory, where the military itself is vulnerable and the disaster scenarios being contemplated -- including the possibility of widespread domestic violence as a result of food shortages -- are forcing planners to look at what are called "extraordinary circumstances".

Interesting isn't it.

In the the past, almost every imagined contingency associated with emergency preparedness has assumed civil and military assistance coming from the outside. One military officer involved in continuity planning calls it a "cavalry" mentality: that military assistance is requested or ordered after local civil authority has been exhausted.

"There might not be an outside," the officer says, asking that she not be named because she is speaking about sensitive matters.

What we know about the potential of pandemics .

On February 1 st.

On February 1, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper signed orders directing NORTHCOM to execute nationwide pandemic plans. Secretly, he signed Warning Orders (the WARNORD as it's called) alerting NORTHCOM and a host of east coast units to "prepare to deploy" in support of potential extraordinary missions.

The authorities involved are not taking any chances , unlike some.

In scenarios where one city or one region is devastated, that's a pretty straightforward process," the military planner told me. "But with coronavirus, where the effect is nationwide, we're in territory we've never been in before."

They're recognising realities and acting accordingly.
They'll put trump pence staff , Congress and the supreme court in safe bunkers out of the way , if needs be. ( You'd expect they've hoarded up some food and toilet paper lol).

And last of all , don't worry if it comes to it . If general shaunessy ( or not been his devolved replacement ) is in charge , you're guaranteed in good hands . And they want to return capacity to civil government as soon as they can .

plans state that the government continues essential functions under all circumstances, even if that is with the devolved second string or under temporary military command. One of the "national essential functions", according to Federal Continuity Directive 1 is that the government "provid[e] leadership visible to the Nation and the world ... [while] maintaining the trust and confidence of the American people" The question is whether a faceless elite could ever provide that confidence, preserving government command but also adding to public panic. That could be a virus too.

Advice : let these people call the shots , if things should come to that . Let's hope not . And, follow their lead . Have a plan , and not the headless chicken variety . If you do you might one day be glad of it. And if not , no harm done. Packs of rice you don't open now are still good in 3 years time maybe more . Don't open them , keeping your extras to one side , out the way somewhere cool and quiet .

The best bet , don't be complacent in the face of this pandemic , take it seriously as coronavirus is an inter national emergency , life threatening for people of all ages. Wash your hands , stay home , keep distance , save lives .

utter bollox

the claim that the military - has not already got plans for multiple typpes of threat - that could affect the entire nation is a bare faced lie

FFS - the US navy updated its plans to fight the british empire - after WWI - incorporating all lessons learned

dont tell us that the military expects no threats that target the entire nation - and has no plan to address anything of such scale

total bollox

You might want to address that with the article in mind . I've only quoted it and commented a bit.

It might be that military has their own plans ( of course they've known what a pandemic can mean for a long old time ) , but that the _government continuity plans weren't upto scratch and theyv gone to northern command to get it sorted . Things might have changed and have been updated because trumps had a look at progressing the arrangements recently , as I said check the source

The military has a plan on a shelf somewhere for every conceivable situation. Whether they're good plans or not, is debatable.

But I think the point at which the Govt might have been in jeopardy of potentially collapsing/ or being crippled has passed and it's no longer a realistic issue to worry about.

But yes it does seem odd they've got quotes saying " in new territory "
I hear what you're saying , a pandemic is not exactly a new phenomenon. There is something off about that .

Don't forget some leaders like that UK pm have had it , what if it pops out of some intracellular hiding place in his body and he tests positive again he could suddenly without warning become reinfectious and take out his cabinet .
And if was deemed to be the result of biowarfare a live virus spreading on its own volition may not have been on the cards on the first place, bioweapons are normally expected to use a dispersal method and that's been other than by pandemic spread .. so it could b targeted .

Just look at the number of scenario's that have come out of Holywood etc over the years.
You can not tell me that the military, associated industries and/or numerous governments have not imagined similar situations and developed plans for each.

How effective and to what end these plans are obviously remain to be seen.....lets hope they continue to be figments of our imaginations and we don't find out for real.

A warning order is just a heads up. It's not an official order. Sort of like a tornado warning. Make some preparations, stay alert.

He's got a very long forehead.

In truth the government of an advanced democratic nation, such as the US, would never really be incapacitated to a degree that the military have to "take over", unless this was with the consent of civilian officials.

If the CoG cannot be implemented and sustained , the military would suspend government , and the highest ranking military official (in the US) would take command of the country until the government could be restored.
That's it in a nutshell.

If things go that bad, we can contact the extraterrestials and take over the government with their assistance and make this into a nice country after the aliens beam the politicians onto the military base on the moon. I am sure some of you here are ETs disguising yourselves as members.

Page backwards to July 4th, 1776. And, then to April 19, 1775 through September 3, 1783, to see what happened to those who didn't believe.

You'll find your answer there.
