Because everyone they talk to is screwed regardless. Little droplets in the air you cannot stop.

It does stop big drops landing to be found later however.

There are not enough masks
If we get advice from the WHO or CDC that we are not protected without them
families will be reluctant to leave their homes,they could become desperate
there will be panic
and all manner of ill behaviour could follow

edit: I can almost guarantee,one of the phases of post-lockdown will be the conditional use of masks.
Billion's are on order and being produced as we speak.

All who can get this virus will, sooner or later. We are just trying to slow it down some. If you have access to masks wear them. If not stay as safe as you can. But chances are most all of us will get it. Some may not even get it till next year.

Was just checking FB and there is strong and growing resentment for people wearing N95 masks
the opinion is they should only be used by healthcare workers
