Have just finished watching the film supersize me, charting what happens to a guy as he eats nothing but mc donalds for an entire month.

Great film, tho a little scary at what happens to him. But anyway my main inigma is at the end of the film, the main guy is talking about what conclusions he has drawn up, how you have to change "whos gonna change, its either us or them" then shows a joky cartoon with a gravestone for mcdonalds, that puts date of death as 2012?????

Never been a particular end of world believer but this was just weird as ive read a few ats topics on end ofworld prophecies in 2012.

Just struck me as very strangeand thought i would let you guys mull it over as it may mean more to you than me.

Anyway thanks

I started to watch that movie the other night but did not, but since you seem to think it was good I will check to see when it on again, as for the 2012 thing hey it is no big secret that this has been predicted, perhaps this guy has heard it too.

that is a really good documentary. Its a must watch. I havent eaten at mcdonalds for well over a year because of that movie. be sure to watch the deleted scenes and see what happens to their french fries 3 months later. You'll stay away from Mickey D's after that.

plus i loved the artwork that they showed for the movie.

Yikes....I misssed the 2012 thing all together.
I had already quit 98% of all fast foods, but was still surprised at how bad those foods can be for you.
Shocking to see how quickly and seriously his health declined.

I agree, a must-see.

I dont understand why people thing this movie is so great!

Whats going to happen if you eat the crap that is served at McD's and BK, every day and all day and stuff you face like he did!???

Its not rocket science!

Just a guess here but people probably think that this movie is so great because of how it demonstrates just HOW unhealthy fast food is!! It may not be rocket science, but then again, why is America and increasingly britain so fat? could it be anything to do with fast food, hmmm!

So why dont people do somthing about it,ie not eat fast food, probably because of all the issues discussed in the film, advertsing how good fast food is and how fun it is, and quietly telling you how bad itis.

Though i do agree it isnt rocket science, for many people it would seem that diet and rocket science are very similar.

Even if all time, all space and existence itlsef do end in 2012, you can be damn sure those fries will still be around. McIndestructable. McNonbiodegradable.

yeah, i thought the film was decent, nice thing to recommend to fast food lovers, but being a veggie for life, and almost a vegan, fast foods doesnt hold much appeal for me. Certainly havent been mcdonalds in over a yr.

i didnt notice the 2012 either incidently.

apart from the whole unhealthy crap, liked seeing how portion sizes has increased over the decades.. very interesting!
and nice bit on american school foods.

I just love the fact that the stuff is addictive (specifically, the colesterol compound).....but then, have y'all ever noticed the alcohol aftertaste to their fries?????

There's a reason I'm not wasting my money to see this film, no matter how good it is. I know the food is unhealthy. That doesn't stop me from occasionally (perhaps once a month) indulging in a #4 meal, and loving those fries. You could tell me the burger was made of fried lipsuctioned lard, and the fries were made from kittens, and I'd still delight in the taste of it.

See, it's okay to do unhealthy things in moderation. For every fast food meal I have, I've had around 60 homemade meals balanced out by the four food groups. Perhaps I do not excercise as much as a health nut, but I get enough excercise to keep me from blobbing out, and I rarely eat sweets, because I just don't like them.

Anything in excess is bad. That's something everyone should know if they are old enough to read. It's a sad state of affairs, but it is not the fault of McDonald's. McDonald's is not there to sell you health food, excercise, healthy living, or tips on how to save your life from whatever little trauma you are going through. They're there to sell you a meal. That's it.

You can choose to give them your business, but don't say McD's is somehow forcing it on the populace, like those fat kids who filed a class-action lawsuit. If someone is so stupid as to think they can eat anyone's fast food with excessive regularity, and not suffer the consequences, then they either deserve to be removed from the gene pool, or at least removed from any vested concern I have in the whole thing.

i just mentioned the 2012 thing on the grave in another link. i missed it in the movie the first time i watched it but i saw it the other day and took notice. it was a little odd to see that was his death date. maybe there is some way to email the guy and ask about that.

i dont know about md's forcing it on people. But they definitely market it well so that its name and brand is known all over the world. Also liked the bit where they showed how they target children with the activity areas, and when the quesioned the kids on famous things.. cant't remember which...using picture cards, and they could ALL identify Ronald Mcdonald and accociated him with really stupid markteted feelings n thoughts.
trust, they wanna mcdonaldise the world, lol

For those who have never seen the documentary and who may never will, some highlighted claims include:

McDonalds ....

auctions/buys diseased and sick cows and chicken
puts sugar on their salads
has a breakfast menu that's as fattening as the lunch menu
feeds so many people a day that it equates to the population of Spain
has around 80 fast food restaurants in the manhattan area alone
obesity surpassing all other preventable diseases as a cause of death
links all sorts of diseases related to obesity
is proven unhealthy, yet is located in hospitals

-----------

The results are just that it's bad. The results are that he gained around 20 lbs. in one month, started feeling depressed, was hungry more often, became essentially addicted to the food like it was a drug (got a high off it). And his liver was shot out as if he was an alcoholic.

The documentary also explores other areas of food and health such as school lunches, snack machines, high sugar diets, portion sizes, and the effect the food has on children that it aggressively markets to.

It also mentioned that diabetes can take around 15-20 years off your life and is related to bad food consumption. And gave some fairly scary numbers on how many people will get diabetes on average in the future at the current rate of growth.

Overall I'd rank it as one of the best films I've seen this year and possibly ever. You may never see another mainstream film like it.
