well if your walking around the mall with a shotgun, chances are you wont be long. even in a open carry state, plus i know you can't transport a loaded shot gun Nebraska

Shotgun is he best defensive 'gun' there is IMO.

Kind'a hard to pack it though - you might walk in a store and some guy would tackle you on isle 5.

All kidding aside - the man in the OP is a Hero - hands down!

Stay Well

Pistols are great short range weapons. They allow for greater maneuverability when close and in crowded areas. And you can make a pistol harder to take away than you could a long rifle.

Which weapon would you rather be armed with strength of character or a Remington 870 ?

I wouldn't use a shotgun in a crowded place.

Why not? Can't you hit more people that way before the police take you out?

The beautifulness of the 870 is never arbitrary.

As long as you can successfully hit the spot you want to hit, the delivery vehicle makes little difference. No argument from me on terminal ballistic calculations. But unless you can successfully get to a point where that calculation is relevant to your circumstances, it's academic.

In Iraq, I witnessed a couple of times when the M9 (9mm) was utilized by someone near me to no affect. Subsequently, their claim would be it had little stopping power. I was not going to argue with them but from what I saw with my own eyeballs was that pistol was simply making smoke and noise in a general direction.

Can’t argue with that .

Pistols have a good knockdown power at short range . Hollow points are a excellent choice if you hit your target.

But at close range a shotgun puts more energy on target and is king of knockdown power . Not to mention the energy dissipates faster making it less lethal to bystanders .

If we get to choose our ammo. Because of the close range and environment. I’d pick #4 buckshot twenty one .24 pellets which will ruin anyone’s day .

Pistols are excellent weapons but if I’m going up against somebody set on killing me and others . I want to put him down quick .

I’ll take any advantage I can get.

I grabbed the 870 comparison out of thin air . As far as saying arbitrary goes. I was trying to cut down on the carrying it around the mall replies . ( didn’t work ) lol

I doubt anyone would be carrying a loaded shotgun on them “just in case” . Lol

But why not?

A clear line of fire is a clear line of fire .

mini-slugs. helps prevent collateral damage. I can get 12 of 'em into my pistol grip 12ga pump. clears the room ith just one boom.

Call me old-fashioned .

But if I’m going to get in a gunfight and someone says “do you want this shotgun” .

I don’t think I’d say “ no thanks I’ve got a pistol “. Lol

while the shotgun is nice, it's a bit bulky in my IWB holster. I prefer my LC9. I've tried to like my Springfield XDS .45, but the damn 9 is so perfect, I just can't like it. I'm just really happy the only thing I have had to kill with my weapon is that pesky target. it looks at me with "that" look.

Let’s try this scenario

If you were with your family at the mall. A spree killer walked in and began shooting .

There was no room to run no place to hide and he was heading straight for the people you hold most dear .

Which weapon would you rather be armed with strength of character or a Remington 870 ?

Best case scenario? both?
second case Scenario? I hope I am by the cutlery when he comes, lord have mercy on the man then(I was trained once)

knife vs gun 21 feet...blade might take a shot, but blade wins by bringing death to gunman. that is excluding any object I grab and throw at shooters face, and am running swiftly behind... by the time you used both arms and gun to swipe aside said object from hitting your face(I played baseball as a child)... I am already ganking you in the eye...

I have personally moved to carrying more with me as I go out.
Larger frame pistol, more mags and usually a bag with a pistol caliber carbine.

Days are strange now and I will not be caught unprepared, or under gunned.

I hope you don't walk around the mall with an 870.
