I don't think we understand what the oldies really do and we won't until they stop doin it.

I hope to not find out.

Covid 19 might be the thing that puts an end to grandma porn however.

Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Objectively, there would be benefits. Overall though, I would expect the world to be significantly worse off.

I dont think "the mourning period" would wear off. It would probably echo for generations, a scar on our collective psyche.

Personally, I still have so, so much to learn from my elders. I do believe we can learn a little something from everyone, but a lot of it seems strictly time-gated.

Whether thats more time, in the case of those over 65, or very little time in the case of a baby.. Both have very unique, very important things to bring to the world. Many of which may be difficult to quantify, at best.

I think a lot of heads of industry are over 65. Not everyone retires at their earliest opportunity.

Your latest years are the time when you know the most you will ever know. Quite a lot of the world's knowledge base would go, and might not get passed on.

But past 80, I think the economic impact would be small (and the health care savings high.)

Still..........I really shudder to think somebody somewhere might be having this same conversation some day when I've turned 80............

617 million
The world's older population continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. Today, 8.5 percent of people worldwide (617 million) are aged 65 and over. According to a new report, “An Aging World: 2015,” this percentage is projected to jump to nearly 17 percent of the world's population by 2050 (1.6 billion)

I am 36 years old.
My sister is 38 years old.

If everyone over 65 is dead then my parents would die.
If I am going to die at the age of 65 there is no need for me to save for superannuation as I am only allowed by government to collect that from them at the age of 67 years.
If my parents would die at age 65 then my sisters children would have no grandparents anymore as my brother in laws family is also the same age as my parents.

The finances of the old would possibly filter down to the younger with Wills.
There would be a lot more younger people with money.

Retirement homes / villages would be empty or have to find a new niche
Property prices would probably plummet too.

Health care systems would get a bit of a load off.

I dont know what else at the moment
