The Gibbs were British nationals. I think one or two may have also got US citizenship, so were joint nationals.
Back to topic. There are plenty of well-known bands and people who "started young". Radiohead, for example were writing songs and performing at
school, as were REM and others.
Nowadays, most mainstream music is designed to make a few people rich and the music is formulaic, talentless and over-produced IMHO. Regardless, if
you peel away the top layer you will find that there are some amazing bands out there who pursue music rather than celebrity and fame. Many of these
bands started their path when they were young, and that is as true today as it was in the past.
