"There is still the question of why this virus is not impacting the rest of the world like it did China."
Hmm.. not really. Who is asking that?
Clearly the virus was probably all over the place well before China starting locking things down. Since then, other countries have been much more vigilant. At least most of them.
Look at Iran - there are probably a -lot- of infections there now.
Lock things down - decrease the spread. Do nothing - watch your population catch it VERY fast.
This is still going to be a ridiculously hard thing to beat.
You can't shut down your country indefinitely. It's not even rampant in the U.S. yet - and stocks down 1k yesterday.
I'm still baffled that many don't think this is a very serious problem yet. It's a VERY serious problem now, both health-wise and economy-wise.

I JUST LISTENED TO THE CDC UPDATE.....
THEY finally said expect SIGNIFICANT DISRUPTIONS IN YOUR DAILY life......
This news will trickle down throughout the day......
Someone needs to get the Transcript ASAP
Why you and others seem to be offended and want to lash out and attack when simple facts are pointed out is mystifying.
Beat??? Who said anything about beating it? This is a virus. All we can do is learn to live with it, just like we have every other virus we've ever encountered.
We haven't locked anything down here, really. And our population has been stuck at 15 cases and no deaths for how long now? Weeks if I'm not mistaken.
Vigilant? Really? Not sure where you are, but that is not how I would characterize what has been happening here in the USA.

They did case study of 70,000 in China that backs those numbers in kids. Doesn't mean they can't be little vectors though.

Anyone been discussing the fact that birds can carry coronaviruses and migrating birds are about to start coming back?
Is this particular virus able to be carried by birds?

Sorry you think I am lashing or attacking - not sure why you think that's the case. Just because someone differs in opinion with you doesn't mean they are "attacking" you by offering an alternate viewpoint.
Beat = Contain.

If you want to believe that, ok. We are around 56 cases now however, many from the cruise line + the others.
Will it get here? Probably.

I have not heard that it is labeled a pandemic. I saw yesterday I think, that they had NOT labeled this a pandemic yet.
Of course the government is saying its under control here so we could all be dead next week.
Scientists have developed an oral vaccine for the new coronavirus using baker's yeast, Chinese state media reported. A professor in charge of the project has reportedly taken four doses of the drug without having any side effects.
Possible side effects
Brewer's yeast is generally considered safe for short-term use. In some people, brewer's yeast may cause headache, stomach upset, and gas. Brewer's yeast may need to be avoided by certain groups. Among the considerations:
Brewers yeast should not be used in people with a yeast allergy.
Brewer's yeast should be avoided in people on diabetes medications as it may cause an abnormal drop in blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Some research suggests that brewer's yeast may worsen inflammatory bowel disease so it should probably be avoided by people with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.5
Brewer's yeast may cause harm to people with compromised immune systems (including organ transplant recipients and people with advanced HIV) by triggering an opportunistic fungal infection.

That is an interesting idea, indeed. So maybe see if anal swabs would be comparable, better, or worse than the upper respiratory swabs they are doing to get test samples?
Rampant? 15 cases? Seriously?
it is only a serious concern for the elderly and/or already immune/health compromised.
