If this is a bio weapon to cull the Worlds population the people doing it are really stupid. OK, China has a lot of people, but to infect the World the movement of the infected would be minimal, as we've seen. A few cases here, a few cases there.
Now IF they really wanted to do the damage the prime target would be the Muslim Hajj. 2.5 million to 3 million people in one place for a week then all go home to countries all over the World. Then all these infected go to crowded mosques and mix with others.
Easy aint it.

UNless this was an accidental escape from there bio tech lab in the area and they are trying to contain it. It does not really add up. Everyone is saying its less bad than SARs if thats the case why are they locking peeps in their houses.

i'm sorry the meme went over your head, but when you post something like the rumor in your op that have no documentation (facts) and make statements like you like this two,

Then, once it infects the entire nation of China, we as in the rest of the world has to keep the entire country of China...1.4 BILLION PEOPLE under quarantine indefinitely....yeah effing right like that's gonna happen!

This virus WILL make it's way around the world. Our only hope is to hope we find a cure in time. But by the looks of it, this disease is a bioengineered weapon of mass destruction that has either been accidentally or purposefully released (either way the cat is out of the bag) so a vaccine isn't happening any time soon.

as if they were facts, yea you deserve the chicken little award. are you on the ground in china? are you on the ground every where there are reported cases?

all you are doing is fueling the hysteria. see ya CL.

It's weird that you conveniently left out the very first sentence in that paragraph that I wrote. You know, the part where i said "I look at it like this." as in, you know, this is my opinion.

I'll come back and revisit this post of yours in a few months when the coronavirus has spread all across China and say i told ya so. It's doing a pretty good job of doing just that already, you should check the news.

SARS had a run of nine months and killed 775 people. It's only been three weeks and this disease has (officially) killed 1,200 people. Everyone knows China is lying about the real numbers. Take a look at a map of infected people in China, the cat is out of the bag. China is Fked. Officials are predicting 18 months before we have a vaccine. Whether people want to believe it or not this disease has a very real possibility to become a global pandemic. They can call that fearmongering all they want but calling me a fearmonger doesn't change the facts.

You want some facts?

FACT:
Althogh it's been only three weeks COVID-19 (coronavirus) has far surpassed SARS in deaths which had a run of nine months.

FACT:
China has spent over 173 BILLION DOLLARS 1.2 TRILLION YUAN over this disease.

FACT:
The case fatality rates for most flu strains, including the pandemic ones like H1N1 that crop up every 25 years or so, tend to be in the region of 10 or 20 deaths for every 100,000 infections. COVID-19 appears to be several orders of magnitude more dangerous, with the equivalent of 2,359 deaths per 100,000 confirmed cases so far. (and this is underinflated communist numbers)

FACT:
Coronavirus is more infectious than the flu, and possibly a lot more infectious. If the current numbers are to be believed, it is at least 10 times as lethal as the flu today, which puts it close to the virulence of the influenza strain that killed 50 million people in 1918. Despite medical advances, the world is far more crowded, and hence more vulnerable, than it was in 1918.

You can call this fearmongering. I call it stating facts.

first no documentation for either the 1st or 3rd of these so called facts. the second one i don't doubt cuase there's big money in health care and medicine. third out today

Coronavirus Cases: 60,414 view by country Deaths: 1,370 Recovered: 6,295

COVID-19 Coronavirus Outbreak

so where's your proof of

2,359 deaths per 100,000

or does the words several orders of magnitude more dangerous, nothing but speculation, with nothing to back it up.
i'll have to follow it up but the peak is expect to hit at the end of this month. even if it goes to the "
2,359 deaths per 100,000 " no where near pandemic.

which puts it close to the virulence of the influenza strain that killed 50 million people in 1918. Despite medical advances, the world is far more crowded, and hence more vulnerable, than it was in 1918.

oh there it is the old spainish flu deal. during the Spanish flu epidemic the conditions were ripe for spread. there were circumstances that promoted the spread. such as WWI where victims from chemical attacks, injured from combat, malnourished and hygiene created prime conditions for the spread through out the world.

and for your info the number for Spanish flu is thought to more closer to 100 million.

show me some facts, not just speculation, or hear say. just real numbers from credible souses. until proven different

in the mean time stop being ignorant and deny ignorance it. stop spreading hysteria

You still are either missing or misrepresenting an important facts here.

Mortality rates and locations of the outbreaks

SARS in 2002 broke out in a farming community in the Guandong province in China. It was not in a particularly densely populated place. THE Morality rate of SARS ended up being about 9.6% (774 deaths from 8096 cases),

Then in 2012 we have MERS again it hit a relatively low population area, but had a morality rate of 34.4% (858 dead from 2495 cases).

So I use those two examples, because they are also coronaviruses. Covid-19 has hit in a densely populated city, in the most populace nation on the planet. Using the Jhons Hopkins CSSE dash board I see that as I type this there have been 60 368 cases resulting in 1370 deaths. THat gives a 2.3% mortality rate (with rounding) so far. MOST of those cases appear to be in Hubei province (48206 with 1310 deaths (thats a 2.7% mortality rate)). This virus does not have the same mortality rate as the closely related SARS and MERS ones, it happens to have hit a city of 11 million humans. I say again if ebola hit a densly popluated African city, rather than villiages it would be much worse, the average mortality rate (because different outbreaks have had different ones) is 40.4%, lets not even go to the Marberg virus (80% mortality) or Nipah (77.6%)

Where did I get these numbers? The CDC and WHO.

So yeah I call it fearmongering and or over reaction. Your facts are being misrepresented neighbour.

If the virus isn’t halted, it could infect 60 per cent of the world’s population and kill one in 100 of those infected – around 50 million people – Gabriel Leung, at the University of Hong Kong, told The Guardian on 11 February.
But no one knows if it really will, because we don’t know whether the virus can be contained, how deadly it is and how many people have it.

Your entire argument is based on two things - comparing nCoV to the flu and data from China.

Finding similarities between nCoV and the flu isn't hard. Proving that nCoV is no more harmless or less harmless is completely different. There are many illnesses that present like a cold or the flu. And the severity of those illnesses is greatly varied. Just because at some point they have similar symptoms does not make them the same, or even remotely close.

If you trust the information coming out of China on this outbreak you are braver than you are smart. Pretty much straight across the board it is assumed that the real numbers are not being disclosed. Of course China says its only killing the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. What did you expect them to say?

There were more than 250 deaths reported just from yesterday. I don't recall the flu doing that...

MERS is not the flu. SARS is not the flu. nCoV is not the flu. I don't understand your adamant desire to refer to this outbreak as a flu. Does it seem less frightening to you if you call it a flu? Personally, I don't care what its called. Its making China quarantine millions of people. I don't recall the flu doing that either...

The journalist is not an expert and it is a SINGLE expert making this claim. Having been interviewed before on something to do with science, the journalists often misquote.

So no, your source is not rebuttal to what I said. On top of that, lets say upto 60% of the population get it, its still only 2% lethal at this point. Nothing like Spannish Flu or othrs I've listed.

You seem reluctant to engage in debate. I asuume this is because you can only cut and paste. On tops of all that this reply of yours breaks the rules. You needs substance in replies Neighbour

Spanish Flu of 1918 was far worse than COVID-19, and there would have been many more deaths yesterday if it were that strain. Underestimating the flu is foolish. Both Swine Flue (H1N1 2009) and Avian flu had a higher morality rate than COVID-19 appears to have

I don't underestimate the flu. But I do not contend that this is the flu either. This has nothing to do with the flu! Jeez...

For everyone who insists this outbreak is nothing more than the flu - good for you. Enjoy your perspective. Its all yours and you can have it...

All I said was this outbreak is worse than people are giving it credit for. The same people pointing out that I have no real numbers to demonstrate are using supposed numbers to denounce my claim.

China is not being forthcoming with information. Can anyone here say no children have died in China from this outbreak? Can anyone here say only elderly people or people with weakened immune systems fall victim to this outbreak? The answer is no. So wtf are you arguing about? Your opinion is different than mine??? Good for you. Congratulations. WTF

No one who is vaguely clued in is contenting this IS influenza. BUT at the same time the reaction to COVID-19 has been OTT.

The outbreak is so bad, because of where it occurred. A densely populated city of millions.

As for China not being forthcoming? What do you base this on? I mean directly base this on? They may have shared all the information they have, they may not have. BUT to assume they have not, is prejudging.

So I say again, for a disease that has 2 to 3% mortality, is the response appropriate?
