Chinese birth rate slows to the lowest in the history of the People's Republic of China

Demographically speaking the one child policy in China resulted in hundreds and thousands of girls being aborted or killed after birth which left the men of China (those who can afford it) going all over the world for a mate or a good short time. Now according to the article China's birth rate has fallen to the lowest level in 70+ years.

It is not just China but Japan has also experienced record low birth rates. The last thing I read, Africa is just about the only place where there is a projected increase in population.

Social pressures of making a buck or or the cost of raising children or maybe it is the plastic that is used to store and carry much of our food killing the urge to mate ?

China's birth rate last year fell to its lowest since the founding of the People's Republic of China more than 70 years ago, posing a long-term challenge for a government concerned by an ageing population.

The country's birth rate in 2019 stood at 10.48 per thousand — the lowest since 1949 — data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China showed on Friday.

The number of babies born in 2019 dropped by about 580,000 to 14.65 million.

The abolishment of the One-Child Policy at the end of 2015 has not provided much of a tangible boost to the country's birth rate.

From 2017 to 2018, total births fell by nearly 2 million.

The One Child Policy — introduced in 1979 — was aimed to control the population explosion in the decades after the Communist Party came into power in 1949, when Chairman Mao Zedong encouraged large families and condemned birth control to boost manpower.

But the country's population is approaching what Chinese government scholars predict to be a peak of 1.44 billion in 2029, which is anticipated to be followed by "unstoppable" population decline.

Figures published by the China Association of Social Security in 2018 showed China's elderly population is expected to reach 400 million by the end of 2035.
This rapid ageing is creating policy challenges for China's leaders as they promise to guarantee healthcare and pension payments amid a slowing economy.

Maybe human kind has a self regulating mechanism kinda like some animals who when they over populate stop breeding or the heard runs and jumps off a cliff ? Not really but I do find this stuff interesting.. I tend to think is is more of a social thing than anything.. Once someone sees the struggles of raising kids some just opp out.

Around here guys meet a girl and gets married but when she is pregnant the guys leave and get a new wife or girlfriend. Luckily in this society the grand parents or the mother of the pregnant girl ends up raising the child if the child is lucky. The guy who left never pays a dime in most cases for the welfare and well being of the child. We used to collect money every time we played golf to donate to a local orphanage.. You go there and it can rip your heart out with all the kids just wanting a hug..

No doubt some will read the article and think this is great news as mother earth has to many people already. Again maybe everything is self regulating ?

Oh dear! What are we gonna do with the world population going down to tolerable levels? I'm gonna throw a party and invite all the 7 billion people we already have and let them decide how to feed everybody.

Addendum - Nature MIGHT BE self-regulating (eventually) but you do not really want to wait for nature to explain the natural limits of your species to you. At least with humans you have a chance of having it be explained in a compassionate way. Nature doesn't give a # about your made up rights.

Hey Sky, if I recall, don't you live in Asia also?
As you know, Japan now has more deaths then births. This is also taking place in Italy and Germany. In China, as predicted, it was a mistake to enforce a child policy. It is true that many young Chinese now see money in their pockets and want to travel the world, but when going back to China, reality hits in. Very competitive to raise a kid there, same here in Japan.

Is it the plastics, well, yes.
Is it the smart phones, well, yes.
Is it the lack of wanting to be a parent, hell, yes. And we see it in all developed countries. Countryside living is where the new trend will be, back to farming and living like it was 60 years ago. Make what we need and export little. Slow, but a real economy that can be in balance with human growth to survive without an empire crashing.

World population has steadily increased year by year. Maybe china's population decline is due to education and access to information? Seems like a joke to a heavily supressed communist china, but information and awareness is growing compared to the past. IMO.

I will be be happily shocked if world population declined for a few years but there is no indication it will.

A overpopulated planet is a bad thing. Overpopulation leads to people treating each other with lesser respect.
Anyway, interesting that china of all places is in decline.

The economic systems humans are creating illusions of manipulated scarcity sometimes where there is no real scarcity. This to overvalue commodities. Fiat money is a perfect example on something that have real worth of nothing/zero but still people are under the illusion that it is real.

Humanity have created a downward spiral where the higher cognitive people mate less than the people with low cognitive skills. Resulting in a mild version of Idiocracy.

With automation increasing most humans will not have any useful skill to trade. It will be like with farmers. Only a small % of the population will be needed to provide goods for all people. What will be needed is highly technical specialist. Almost all economics, administrative personal will be replaced by AI. Only some human controllers will be left to oversee the problems that arise.

Then comes genetic screening to increase logical abilities by making sure your kids have specific DNA markers to ensure they are needed/useful in society.

The debt based money system needs more population to debt to not implode. And when the need to create money out of thin air becomes too much to keep the old loans afloat you get hyperinflation. With the interest rates close to 0% we are already at the end of what debt based fiat money can do.

Yep when they organize the U.N.'s world committee on who can have babies and who should just be put to death because they are worthless air breathers you should apply.. Actually agenda 21/30 has some of the goals already but they seem to be behind schedule so maybe you could help them move along with their "Save mother Earth" plans.. Although mother earth has killed or allowed to die off 99% of every species that has ever lived without help from humans.... she seems like she can handle what she deems as a bothersome species without much help..

I will actually not need to apply for the right to not reproduce. I will just use my brain and not do it.

Birth rates have been on a decline in developed countries for a while now. This is not a new thing.

It is projected that within 30 years the worldwide population will begin to decline after moving up marginally. Then go into a nose dive world wide.

This is exactly why developed countries have been stealing young people from the rest of the world. The social security and socialist programs of Europe are in real jeopardy due to the low birth rates. The only way to save them is to get young people from other countries to prop up and pay into the social security programs and socialist programs of Europe. That is exactly the reason for all the "immigration" and for the deep desire to legalize people who sneak into the country without any background checks for criminality or terroristic tendencies. By stealing the highly motivated "immigrants" and "smarter" immigrants from the third world countries, it will make the countries they come from poorer and have more problems and deepen their problems and issues. While "saving" the and preserving the first world lifestyle.

www.forbes.com...

There are many theories why.

What is mine? I think it is multi-faceted.

1. Technology - social media
Young people are spending less and less time face to face and in person
A great deal of their "social" interaction is online
This means that they don't learn the social skills needed to find a mate
It increases social anxiety, which leads to lower rates of in person interaction and mate selection
core.ac.uk...
www.arnoldpalmerhospital.com...

2. Easy and private access to porn online
Japan has a culture with rampant porn, it is everywhere, and has been for far longer than in other countries, it is socially acceptable
www.npr.org...
Porn lessens the ability and sometimes desire to have a sexual relationship with a real person
www.washingtontimes.com...

3. A society that values consumerism
Our television and online habits are riddled with ads that influence culture and teach people from a very young age that consumerism and "getting everything you want" is the key to happiness and should be the driving force in people's lives.
Now that birth control is easily available and abortion cheap and easy in developed countries, people look at babies and children differently.
No longer in developed cultures are children contributing to economics in the family and are a drain on the family and personal resources.
This means children have become an economic burden, making people think twice or more before having a child.

But, since the human extinction movement, which AOC endorses, says that humans must become extinct to save the planet, I would think many who support AOC, etc. would find the research that says in less than 60 years the worldwide decline in births will accelerate and lead to a steep ongoing population decline is an extra ordinarily positive development for humanity.

China's birth rate is falling for a number of reasons.

1) Expensive to have a child, I know coz I had 2 while living there. Let's not talk about the mess that is their school system.
2) Expensive to live in big cities, 1000 USD per month is a livable wage in the big 6 cities, 10 years ago it was 500 USD.
3) Younger people are quickly absorbing western values and no longer marrying at 26 which is customary in China.
4) More young people are placing love instead of duty when marrying, duty being also customary.
5) Consumerism - cars, bag, phones (people sell kidneys to get iphones), houses, 2nd houses, 10th house...
6) 2nd Child Policy was about a decade too late
7) Men outnumber women by a good margin, IIRC 2.2 men to 1 woman, customary to try and have boys to support mommy and daddy coz govt retirement is sorely lacking
8) Women want to marry UP and only UP

Remember that when talking with Nixon's team they tried to send the USA 10 million women. Imagine if they had...

Your premise is, I am sorry to say incorrect.

Every single first world or industrialized country has had steeply declining birth rates. They are ALL having below replacement rate births. This has been going on for awhile. Please research this for yourself, there is nothing better than doing your own research when someone disagrees with you.

As a matter of fact it is predicted that within 30-50 years if the trend continues there will begin a worldwide drop in fertility resulting in a declining population. Again, please research this for yourself, using recent models, this is the best thing you can do before disagreeing with people.

Right now as a result China has a SEVERE problem. With their one child policy where they have convinced their entire country that one child is the perfect number. This comes from reports of people who have been to China and found that people are aghast at the thought of having more than one child - propaganda worked too well.

As a result a married couple is supporting 6 adults and caring for 4 aging adults and one child. Their culture does not permit the use of nursing homes. An unmarried adult is caring for 2 aged parents alone. The social services promised the elderly is causing economic as well as cultural problems. This WILL happen to the world eventually.

This WILL cause enormous social problems while depopulation is taking place. Please research what is happening in Japan with entire villages being abandoned due to lack of people. People staying in empty villages taking to odd measures.

This will also be a worldwide short term economic disaster as there are way too few young people to support older people.

This is why highly developed countries are stealing young people (mass immigration) from poor countries. In the long run this will make poor countries poorer, but will mitigate the problem for rich countries.

Depopulated villages in Japan, will come to the entire world within 50 years or so if current birth rate declines continue world wide.

A village where one of the very few people left is so lonely she is making herself village residents, to come for our great-granchildren if current birth rate declines continue world wide.

THERE IS NO UNCHECKED POPULATION PROBLEM!!!! Worldwide depopulation will begin very soon.

It is ok to be happy but realize there will be
large sociopolitical problems as a result and huge,
very huge economic disruption and economic disaster.
as a result for your grandchildren and great-grandchildren, possibly even your own children.

This is also very likely to impact your personal future as well, there won't be enough young people to take care of or support the elderly. So while you are celebrating this is happening, you better plan now in your 20's or 30's for your own old age, unless you don't mind being thrown away or living in poverty when you are too old to work full time.
