Of course the tech is there. It's been here for many years.

One of the ways in which it is used today is for security purposes vs. tracking purposes.

I guess I'm ahead of the curve. I've been chipped for 3 years. Voluntarily.

Saves an *awful* lot of time getting into and out of work some days...

I assumed it could/would be used for tracking purposes too. And there are legitimate reasons to do so in certain situations. But since I don't give a rat's ass who knows where I go, it never bothered me nor did it make me alter any of my habits.
