Currently, the concept of cometary cyanogen poisoning is only a possibility.

But that concept will be put to the test in 2061.

Well this looks like fun. I'm torn between becoming an alcoholic or finding religion. Maybe both to hedge my bets. Come to think of it if I'm still around by then I'll be too senile to care. Good luck kids.

Erm, I really have no advice there but religion is good and if you can't avoid them then there are plenty of alcoholic priests out there I mean ever look at those strawberry like noses.

Just think about your liver though, be kind to it.

You know something though everyone is different how many people have you known that smoked all there lives and yet got into there 90's, or drank heavily all there lives (though let's be fair it was what we call real ales today non of this bottled and canned crap and the local pub used to be the heart of every community, then again look back at how much younger most of them used to die as well and then there were the ale house lout's that used to beat up there misses and abuse there kid's).

Best bet Discover Coffee and leave the whisky for medicinal purposes only.

(I don't know if that will depress or make you chuckle but I tried).

I'm on the coffee now preparing for the walk home. I'll be watching the sky, just in case.

HG Wells pondered a similar thing back in 1906 with 'In the Days of the Comet'.

There is a correlation between pandemics and comets, so who knows.

Space is 3 dimensional. That article does not take that fact into account. In this video, In the lower left section, you see the comet is still above the ecliptic plane as the Earth, comet, and sun line up in the lower right section.

Halley’s comet is 18 degrees off the ecliptic which is the plane that most of the planets in this solar system's orbits follow.

I will leave the lack of density of the gaseous tail for someone else to bring up.

Isn't there a standing theory that a piece of this Comet broke off and entered our atmosphere, causing droughts and dropped temperatures, and signalling/coinciding the beginning of the Black Plague?

Well, Cyanogen is a gas and it will make you pretty thirsty, so make sure to have lots of beer stocked for the event.

There is actually and three scientists that were researching a link and there theory of panspermia wrote a book about it, I can't remember all three names but two were Indian, one was Chandra and the third was an English sounding chap they had collaborated on the book and it was quite popular for a short spell going back, sorry I just can't remember no matter how much I wrack my brain it's in there but fuzzy with time, you might know the book though.
They had compiled evidence linking periods of plague to comet's making near passes of the earth and the earth passing through the coma or debris of the comet's.

Doom porn is not exactly a new thing. Back in the early 1900's spectrographic evidence of toxic material was detected in the coma of Halley's comet sparking some hysteria because the earth actually passed through the tail of the comet on that occasion. What happened? ... nothing apart from a spectacular display.
