I have seen plenty of shrinks but they never see me because I'm invisible.

I would have erected a fence high enough for ANY dogs/wolves/and other animals not to enter my land. I doubt only that dog/wolf was the only one getting into the other landowner's land that rummaged into his garbage.

If that was reason enough to kill the dog, then by all accounts if let's say a drunk driver, or an elderly person, or even a regular person whom loses control of their vehicle and crashes into someone else's land, and tips their garbage, does that give the landowner a right to set the car on fire? (without the driver, or passengers, inside it of course...)

BTW, if the dog had biten the landowner and then he would have shot the dog, or if he had shot the dog that was running at him barking and growling, then the landowner would have been right in shooting the dog/wolf/or other animal attacking, or trying to attack the landowner.

Shooting someones pet for rooting in the garbage? What a scumbag.

None-the-less it's the owners duty to ensure the dogs safety.

My dogs are not let off leash in public unless I have 100% recall.
When at home they're behind fences. Most dogs will not try to escape their territory unless they were bored.

My Rotti's knew the boundaries of their territory & would not cross the line.
My Staffy cross on the other hand loved to explore the neighbourhood given the chance so I built an escape proof enclosure.

My GSD rescue could easily jump our 6' fences so I keep a close eye on him when he's out in the yard until I get to know his tendencies. [I've had him for 4 months] Protective breeds tend to stay within their territory, unless they're bored from lack of exercise & attention off course.
He goes for a 45 minute trot everyday & we have 2-3 fifteen minute training sessions a day.

He was terribly abused, neglected, chained or stuck in an enclosure for all of his life. He'd had no training & no socialisation, so he doesn't trust humans.
Although he's come a long way in a short time [he's stopped leaping at peoples throats who got too close ... phew] but I'll never be able to take him off leash in public.

If a dog is an escape artist, build an escape proof enclosure. Mine is paved & 7 foot tall. It's wrapped in shade cloth so he can't climb the cyclone fencing. [I mainly use it for feeding or when friends visit ] And make sure they get sufficient exercise & mental stimulation.

It's commonsense & taking appropriate measures according to ones dogs nature.
