I had very close friends die from agent Orange and others who were sick that fought the government for years for some kind of assistance with their ailments. Being 45 years of age and having your finger nails and toe nails turn to mush before your liver stops functioning is not a good way to go IMO. But we were young and bold and believed our military branch would take care of us and keep us out of non combat harms way..

I always think of this video when I read something like this article youtu.be...

The deployment, which began shortly after the 9/11 attacks, were to a military site in Uzbekistan called Karshi-Khanabad, known as K2. It was leased by the United States from the Uzbek government weeks after the 2001 terrorist incident, as it was in close proximity to al Qaeda and Taliban targets.

The US troops were greeted by “radiation hazard” warning signs, ‘black goo’ oozing fro the ground, and pond water that glowed green, according to the report.

K2 was contaminated with chemical weapons remnants, radioactive processed uranium and other hazards, according to documents obtained by McClatchy.

At least 61 of the men and women who served at K2 had been diagnosed with cancer or died from the disease, according to a 2015 Army study on the base. But that number may not include the special operations forces deployed to K2, who were likely not counted due to the secrecy of their missions, the study reported. –McClatchy DC

“Black goo” and other ominous signs

According to the report, the Defense Department knew K2 was contaminated from the start based on documents obtained by McClatchy which are now being made public (see below). After Uzbek soldiers who prepared the base fell ill in 2001, US Central Command ordered an intelligence review of hazards at the facility.

The fourth hazard noted in the report was that the northeast corner of the tent city was likely affected by “runoff from a CW [chemical weapons] decontamination site” which had appeared on U.S. intelligence imagery in 1987.

A separate Army environmental health study of K2 in November 2001 found small areas of dirt contaminated with asbestos and “low level radioactive processed uranium, both from the destruction of Soviet missiles.” –McClatchy DC

"After returning from combat years later, we are all coming down with various forms of cancer that the [Department of Veterans Affairs] is refusing to acknowledge," according to retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Scott Welsch, a special operations military intelligence officer who deployed to K2 in October 2001, and who now has thyroid cancer which was diagnosed in 2014.

Eventually warning signs were erected. Outside the berm, a new bright yellow sign went up with black and red letters that said: “Danger Keep Out. Chemical Weapons.”

Another black and white sign — “Danger. Off Limits. Radiation Hazard.” — was in front of a row of ponds nicknamed “Skittles” after the candy because the water glowed bright green but often had other colors too. The ponds were located just outside the berm.

Several veterans who served at K2 are preparing a letter to Congress to ask for help.

"Please come to our aid to assist us in dealing with these illnesses that have forever altered the courses of our lives and the lives of our families," wrote retired Lt. Col. Omar Hamada, flight surgeon for the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, which went to K2 in 2002.

That is horrific... but not surprising unfortunately, my last base we weren't even notified of asbestos abatement happening on the second floor of where I worked.

I have been asking for the regulations concerning this for over 6 months... so yesterday we had a 4 star come through and he asked if we had questions, so I said yes sir whats the policy concerning notification about potential asbestos exposure due to removal.

spent the rest of the day explaining myself to a series of SNCO's at the behest of a number of officers and it hasent even hit my chain of command yet. Plus side is I now know the procedure and see a problem with the normal flow but nobody wants to discuss it cause they all think I am angling for a va claim.

I said all that to say, if they will screw people over home station racking out in a foreign country scares me a bit now a days, cannot wait to hit 20 years.

This situation should be brought to the attention of President Trump in an official way.
He knows how to deal with the VA, and has proved it.
He is also one of the best presidents we have ever had.

One of my buddies went over there around that time. He was a contractor and worked in SATCOMs. He told me the place had made him really sick and that was the last time he dropped me a note.

In other news ... an inquiry into why the US military was buying Chinese manufactured blood pressure meds (known to cause cancer) were being dispensed at DoD pharmacies. Didn't get an answer in words, but my latest script came from a new source of supply (Exelan).

Go figure.

Except the problem is not just a VA problem.

The problem is that for a very long time we have been ignoring the fact that our government does not give a damn about the American people.

We are a necessary inconvenience that they consider a nuisance. They no longer even try to hide their disdain for us. Just listen to how they talk to us and about us.

Please don't fall for the partisan BS, and think they aren't talking about you. They can change their party affiliation at the drop of a hat, and will do so if it benefits them.

One thing you can be sure of, is that their benefit is going to take priority to ours every time.

That doesn't sound good. It is no coincidence that that many people wound up with cancer.

Brass orbs to say something like that, but I like most every role he has played in, especially Ray Donovan and National Treasure.
