With partisan impeachment, Dems just ignored Hamilton’s, Pelosi’s warnings

And they’ve done so despite the view Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed to The Washington Post just this March: “Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And [President Trump’s] just not worth it.”

nypost.com...

So read that again. WHAT I ask you was bi-partisan about this impeachment vote? Absolutely ZERO. Nada, Zilcho, Nuttin. It was a straight vote down party lines, and they knew this going in that's what it would be.

And not only that, to call that pre vote in the house a "debate" is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. That was no debate. There was not one single mind changed in that whole 8 plus hours of pre concocted statements, which did NOTHING but waste our friggin tax dollars. But they all knew this going in, and did it anyway.

Impeachment is a vital power. Hamilton called it “a bridle in the hands of the legislative body upon the executive servants of the government.” Without it, a chief executive gone wrong couldn’t be removed without “the crisis of a national revolution.”

But that’s all the more reason to use it carefully — not this pell-mell rush to get it off the House floor and over to the Senate, which is sure to acquit the president because the House built so shoddy a case.

The failure here to build bi-partisan consensus before this impeachment vote proceeded was a critical mistake the Dems are going to critically regret come the mid terms.

Total failure, sending their dirty diapers to the Senate. This wont end well for House Democrats.

They should have thought about it before they ship the bed. Now they've got to sleep in it

Even Pelosi ignored her own words. She must be getting senile, forgetting one of the most impressive things I heard from her in years. Maybe she boosted her wine consumption again or is taking meds that block her ability to reason. Maybe the doctors took her off of them for a while and she had a good moment of clarity before they stuck her on more meds that block choline.

I'm pretty tickled about it, to be honest.

I don't think a political party has made this big of a mistake in American political history.

The Democrats thought that they could make public opinion through the media... they always have been able to before.

This time was a historic massive fail.

My brother thinks that the internet was the only thing that subverted and will potentially kill the 100 year plan the Progressives have been working at.

Information is the key to a responsible voting citizenry.

They didn't forecast the internet in their grand plan because they have controlled the media since they got Lincoln elected.

Interesting times indeed...

So many have warned about this slippery slope. Impeachment should only be attempted when there is CONSIDERABLE bi-partisan consensus FIRST. Here there was ZERO. Blinded by hatred, they proceeded anyway. And meanwhile, back at the ranch... Russia's top general is worried about WW3, and 5 Russian scientists just got killed in a nuclear blast accident as Putin develops a new mega weapon. And here we are bitching about whether a call to the Ulkraine was an impeachable offense???

WASHINGTON.... YOU'RE FIRED!!!

I have never been more resolved to vote for Trump and destroy the Dims come Election Day. They are utterly ridiculous and anti-American.

Boy did they just open Pandora's box? We just saw a one sided debate and they really could not come up with anything...about as bad as the Dossier I would say, BUT now the Senate gets their turn...lol

However by all the language I've heard out of the senate they seem pretty worried about even allowing Trump's team a chance to decend him by calling witnesses and questioning them under oath...wonder why that is? To me it sounds like more politicans than those democrats implicated in Ukraine are worried about what might get out on the record.

I say call them all let the chips fall where they will, remove Trump from office, or put others in jail... I'm actually happy with either findings if the facts are correct.

Pelosi is a stupid alcoholic. The country was maximum divided BEFORE the impeachment hearings started.

Now it's less divided, as more Democrats side with President Trump.

That trend will accelerate after (mostly) Democrat-committed crimes begin being exposed. (Money laundering, Extortion, Illegal Spying, etc..)

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The Democrats are committing a slow-burning political suicide. Their impeachment of Trump is madness in political and real terms. Trump's detractors are increasing his chance of re-election. I am not a Trump supporter, nor I am a fan of his detractors. Trump's detractors refuse to learn the lessons from his political rise. Trump's character flaws don't justify top-level CIA/FBI corruption and refusing to acknowledge his 2016 election victory.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

With Obama the House under Republican majority said they would not impeach period. Many feel that cost the Republicans the House, but is this an example of they lost a battle, but won the war event? I'm thinking so. We will see what happens if Trump has 4 more years with a majority Republican Congress.

So true...And the major media did its job well just like everyone knew they would...Except for the internet they likely could have pulled it off...

On balance of probability, you are correct about the Democrats winning the 2018 midterm elections battle. But they are on track to lose the war and 2020 Race to the White House. Once voters heard or read there was no "collusion" between Trump and Russia, they lost interest in fictional anti-Trump tales.

Of course, Trump Derangement Syndrome prevented his detractors from highlighting issues that matter to voters. One is left to speculate what may have occurred if the Democractaes had backed immigration reform. The same goes for holding Trump to account for his failure to get an infrastructure package through congress. Passing immigration reform would have taken away one of the Democrats electoral weaknesses. Voters in swing Electoral College states are far more likely to care about the state of local highways than another phoney anti-Trump scandal.

It's the only political play they have

No candidates.
No policies.
Nothing to get people to vote for.

Essentially cramming for a final exam.

The problem for the Senate is not Trump did anything wrong, but some of them did. I am disappointed in their wanting to end this without getting to the truth. Neither party cares about the truth.

Both parties are making a mistake. The Democrats with this sham impeachment and the Republicans for openly stating they don't want a trial in the Senate. Graham and McConnell need to be voted out if they won't do their jobs and get to the bottom of the corruption in Ukraine by calling the witnesses.

ETA: Sorry was meant to be a reply to the OP.
