Stress dreams associated with air travel

I've noticed a "plot" that recurs in my dreams. It is not in every dream, but I dream along these lines at least once a week.

The theme is stress of some kind associated with air travel. Most of it revolves around airport activity -- suddenly can't find tickets or identification. Sometimes lost in the airport, or have to turn around because I forgot something somewhere.

Now, I have traveled by air more than a few times in my life. Occasional irritations or discomforts but never any bad experiences. These days, I rarely travel by air. Nor do I have any great desire to travel by air.

Anyone else have stress dreams tied to a specific topic?

My stress dreams area all work related. Meaning I'm back at some job I had several years ago or something like it with no clue as to what I am supposed to be doing there.

Airport dreams may represent your desire to move on with your life in one way or another but you are not certain as to which direction to take.

As someone who travels every week I cannot imagine a more annoying dream than that of being in an airport.

The one I always have is, managing to successfully leave one foreign country for another without my passport. That one scares the bejeezus out of me...it's a nightmare! For a couple of reasons too.

1. Because it's actually happened to me once...although luckily I actually did find my passport eventually. But the lazy border agents in Malaysia never stamped me out on my work visa, and I was traveling so much I didn't even notice.

2. Because I knew of a guy who had this happen to him in Cambodia, and he wound up being forced to live "in transit" for nearly a year while they sorted everything out.

@Flyingclaydisk -- yeah, the 'transit' business is nasty. I also kind of wonder about the unspoken deputizing of airline firm personnel to check passports/visa stamps on international flights.

@AugustusMasonicus -- I do not envy how often you take flights. Airports are maddeningly sterile environments.

recurring theme:
… Marauding groups of crazed, uncivilized peoples in tattered clothes who are not Foreigners to Cannibalism

I guess they are survivors of a catastrophe or non-preppers clamoring for resources/info or just hating strangers

I get those episode dreams randomly but sometimes several a week, but never 'none' per month in the last 22 years


I don't airport to my dream location, I in fact astral-project to the scene, I am in some way scouting/appraising the specific dream location to keep tabs on the conditions of Societies around the World... I don't pop in at a crowded theater but could pop in behind some curtains in the movie house or pop in some alleyway but not on a wide open sidewalk

I'd love that dream!! I could test out all the methods I dreamed up while watching TWD.

Back in the 1980s I was on an airplane and there was a lot of turbulence. After that I began having nightmares about airplanes and airports and travelling to foreign countries. They were all dark, scary dreams where I was filled with dread and horror, feeling trapped and unable to help myself, skidding inevitably toward doom. Well, I haven't flown since then.

These days I am more likely to have a stress dream related to school: I arrive at class but I have not done the readings; I'm feeling panicky that the teacher might ask me a question about the readings that I won't be able to answer, or that I won't be able to pass a test because I didn't prepare. Or sometimes I dream I have skipped a bunch of classes and am too far behind to catch up and I'm filled with anxiety about whether I should go back to class or continue to skip. All throughout school from elementary all the way to grad school I always found reading materials that other people picked for me to read an enormous chore. And it is true that I was often behind in my readings so the dreams are based on something very real. However, It has been more than 20 years since I was in any kind of school so the dreams I think are about my fears of not being prepared for something that will happen in the future.

I hold a pilots license so flying has no effect on me, other than getting through security.

A few years ago I was in the Dominican Republic on business. On my last night I decided to play James Bond and spent a few hours at a casino and I did pretty well (up $400). Then my companion suggested a hookah bar. Well I had never done Hashish so I said, “why not, my good man show me the way.” Long story short, I wound up in a hot tub, in my best dress suit, shoes and all, complete with my plane ticket and passport in the pocket. I think it qualifies as a nightmare, yet I was mostly awake.
