Really? I missed when Trump bribed the Iranians with pallets of cash in the desert. If he did, he must be way smarter than Obama ever was because no one picked up on it, and you know the press wasn't quiet about it out of courtesy or respect for ORANGE MAN.

So either he's the world's smartest idiot, or something else was going on.

Another thing is, was this really like Benghazi?

One of the other threads mentioned armed men but then it was mentioned that they were Iraqi security or police of some kind and that the protesters were cleared out with tear gas. I'm thinking apples and oranges.

They also seem to be ongoing. 2019–20 Iraqi protests, so probably just spin with no actual set up.

Considering the networking technology available today, one might question the need for physical embassies at all. A collection of honorary consulates in a country could probably take care of documentation needs, with any physical meetings between officials of the countries being on an exceptional basis.

Face to face meetings and providing for the needs of citizens of the embassy's country will probably keep physical embassies around for a while. Consulates would work in non-hostile countries but in countries like Iraq a consulate would easily be over run.
