imagine speedy 'escort cargo' boats like frigates designed to hold 2-3 containers
portable missile systems, command/control, sonar units, supply, medical, etc

IIRC the Navy had some called 'mobile maintenance facilities'

bad guys would not know what was in them
pre-deploy in trouble spots, maybe move around port to port waiting for need

Thats the point however. These would always stay back in times of combat. They are never intended to be front line. Rather take the load off of exisiting warships Your average container ship is about 16-25 knots. Remember that shipping is about $$$$$ so slow is the way to go to save money. The Navy in time of combat could care less. Plus you could use the container ships as simply a remote launch platform that say an F-35 designates etc.

whats the deal with these shipping container schemes? too many containers in the industry and they are looking for a sucker to buy the overstock? my parents made that mistake back in the 80's. they still own a couple thousand. who knows where they are or where the money went but the irs couldnt even figure it out over a decade long battle.

btw does anyone really think a navy would stay afloat in a war between super powers these days? not I.

i am sure i saw this exact idea floated < pun > during the early 90s

the concept is not " to replace warships " but to create a loose " grid " of weapons across the oceans - that can attack a variety of targets remotely

plus the obvious anti piracy self defence
