A Cluster Of Bright Lights Filmed From Ferry Off NC Coast Back In September

I just read about this incident, on a recent thread on reddit.

A man on a ferry, traveling from the village of Ocracoke to Swan Quarters, North Carolina, recorded a cluster of bright lights, hovering in the sky above the ocean on September 18, 2019.

I know that are a few military bases in the area of the ferry route, but it's difficult to ascertain the exact position of the ferry. Several posters on reddit, commented that these lights "don't display typical flare behavior" because of "the asymmetric pattern" of these lights and the fact that "flares are dropped in a line and drift down as the aircraft moves."

If I were a betting man, I'd say these lights are flares from a military exercise, however there's obviously no way to substantiate that opinion. As always, it's always best to get the opinions from other ATS members, because some may have a military background, or may have seen something similar in the past.

Looks like a pretty clear case of flares to me.

My father was stationed in the area when I was a kid, we lived in Morehead city. There's a ton of air traffic, as well as numerous military exercises almost daily. Looks like flares. Something out of MCOLF.

He literally has military air fields surrounding him.

If it was a military plane then they use them for inbound missiles day or night doesn't matter..

I can't find a video anywhere of flares hanging in the air like that. Even parachute flares. People always say flares but flares drop as they are floating down. It isn't a long video, but even in that time they should at least lose a little altitude..

There were a lot of sightings around NC in September. there's one, in particular, that has caught my deepest interest, and solved an issue I've been searching for at least two years now to see it appear here made things clear for me..
