Ramesh Ponnuru (/rəˈmɛʃ pəˈnʊəruː/; born August 16, 1974) is an American conservative political pundit and journalist.
He is a senior editor for National Review magazine, a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute,[1] a columnist for Bloomberg View,[2] and a contributing editor to the domestic policy journal National Affairs.[3]
Those of us who consume a lot of conservative media are, however, seeing even more flawed arguments in defense of Trump. Here are a few of the leading ones.
There was no quid pro quo in Trump’s call with Ukrainian president Volodomyr Zelenskiy.
t takes willful naiveté to read the memorandum of the call released by the White House that way – especially given that the Trump administration had held up some aid to Ukraine at the time of the call. In the conversation, Trump said that the U.S. had been good to Ukraine, noted that the relationship was not reciprocal, and then asked for “a favor” and an “other thing.”
It’s fine for the president to ask for Ukrainian help in uprooting corruption.
It’s the administration’s right to set its foreign-policy priorities, and fighting corruption has been a low one. The president’s interest here was obviously personal. Otherwise there would have been no reason to involve Giuliani, a private lawyer, who had already said that he was “meddling in an investigation” to help his client.
The “whistleblower complaint” contains a lot of hearsay.
That’s true, but the allegations are of sufficiently troubling acts as to be worth investigating.
Removing a president for high crimes and misdemeanors is not something to be done lightly. T
here is plenty of room for debate over what counts as an impeachment-worthy offense.
It may be wiser to leave a judgment of Trump’s conduct to the next election.
But if Congress chooses to leave him in office, it shouldn’t be based on the weak arguments his defenders are currently making.

Here's what I think.
Trump asked for help to get to the bottom of CrowdStrike and their involvement with the DNC, the Russian scam, the "election meddling".
The dems panicked because it would implicate them.
So they pushed and fast-tracked impeachment to cover up for this and to diffuse the upcoming IG report.
But I say do it. Root for impeachment.
Fire the first ####ing shot.
Go for it.

Where as the attacking party has committed dozens of criminal acts, many of them felonies and near exactly what they blame others of.
Also I'm not a democrat or republican, so don't play that bs of turning it on me. IDGAF one way or the other, both parties are corrupt and the swamp needs drained none the less.
But if Congress chooses to leave him in office, it shouldn’t be based on the weak arguments his defenders are currently making.
By many measures, tariffs have left China’s economy in its weakest spot in nearly three decades. The economy is growing at its slowest rate since 1992, and growth in industrial production is likewise the slowest it has been in 17 years. Meanwhile, China’s companies, especially in the manufacturing sector, are struggling under massive debts and are defaulting at a record rate. China’s consumers are feeling the pinch, too, as retail sales have fallen short of expectations.
This is the vulnerability to tariffs that the president predicted China would face, and it has coincided with continued strength in the U.S. economy. If Trump’s team is looking for leverage in a trade negotiation with China, it certainly can’t ask for much more.

I doubt it means anything to Trump cultists. Trump isn't conservative. The GOP isn't conservative anymore. Both of them are about as far from fiscally conservative as you can get.
The entire right wing is no longer conservative, in name or anything else. They are Trumpian.
Grounds asserted for impeachment have included possible violations of the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the Constitution by accepting payments from foreign dignitaries; alleged collusion with Russia during the campaign for the 2016 United States presidential election; alleged obstruction of justice with respect to investigation of the collusion claim; and accusations of "Associating the Presidency with White Nationalism, Neo-Nazism and Hatred", which formed the basis of a resolution for impeachment brought on December 6, 2017. Since the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate during 2017 and 2018, the likelihood of impeachment during that period was considered by all to be a partisan fantasy.[8][9] A December 2017 resolution of impeachment failed in the House by a 58–364 margin.[10] The Democrats gained control of the House in 2019 and launched multiple investigations into Trump's actions and finances. Speaker Nancy Pelosi initially resisted calls for impeachment. In May 2019 she indicated that Trump's continued actions, which she characterized as obstruction of justice and refusal to honor congressional subpoenas, might make an impeachment inquiry necessary. An increasing number of House Democrats and one Republican were requesting such an inquiry.

Good point. The Trump supporters are going crazy with fear at this point, clawing at the walls and foaming at the mouth. They cannot believe that the Orange Man Bad" meme is really true, and that impeachment is actually happening. He is going down hard, as 40 senators have already said they will vote for removal.
All that is left to do is some paperwork, and then Trump is behind bars.
