If, in the (near) future, a Premier League footballer flies a rainbow flag on the pitch (immediately before, during or immediately after a match), he should be banned for the duration of the season. No need to politicise football.

I would sent him to jail for making a peaceful statement. Maybe we should stop the slogan 'no racism' too, because there are so many racists in the stadiums, they could feel bad and thats the last thing we want, right? The german national team for example is representing germany as a whole, and the Worldcup 1954, when germany beats hungary in the final, changed the after-war depressed society like no other event in these days. So, maybe football isnt just for fun, maybe its way more? Remember when Germany meets the DDR at 1974 World Cup in Germany? Wasnt this more an political game then a normal football match? Football always was connected to politics, because its the most powerful sport worldwide, for that, its part of our lifes.

The very few men in the Premiere League who are lgbtq+ have had to hide who they are for as long as the EPL (and all the other leagues) have been a thing. Good for them for standing up and showing a bit of love for the guys who have to repress themselves to the point of living secret lives because some gross old couch athlete cant deal with a footballer being gay.

Football is politicised so the premise of the OP makes no sense. As one simple example, it has resulted between Honduras and El Salvador. It has resulted in peace in the Ivory Coast in 2006 (Didier Drogba's intervention). There was even a Christmas Truce in World War 1 that invloved a kick about with the people you had been shelling and gassing just hours earlier.

There are bigger problems in football than worrying about a rainbow flag. "Like what?" I hear you cry.

Well, let's see. Poor player behaviour towards the referees and poor sportsmanship. Poor behaviour from the supports towards players and each other. Obscene pay to players and exploitative pricing of tickets to fans.

If people object to a rainbow flag, then that objection illustrates the problem in the average football game.

Realisticly an instant booking to anyone who play acts, especially now we have VAR.
