‘Storm Area 51’ forces shutdown of Nevada airspace to protect top secret facility

I was under the impression that the "Storm Area 51" event had been cancelled. But in the article below it seems that the US Federal Aviation Administration is preparing for something 'cause they have banned aerial activities in the area. A lot of pilots are going to do something with their "free" time. Enjoy the article and post your opinions.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has banned all aircraft, including emergency vehicles, from the airspace near Area 51 ahead of the ‘Storm Area 51 event’ scheduled for Friday.
Everything from news helicopters to drones to private planes and even police vehicles have been barred from the airspace in anticipation of the viral event. The US Air Force (USAF) has also sternly warned people not to waste its time and energy, or even put their lives at risk, by attempting to flout the ban.

It's far better to have security in place and not need it than it is to not put it in place and find out you needed it.

Also, It's being reported that a few events are happening in the area at the same time as the previously planned "storm" event was going to take place.

Whether these were planned before hand or going to be held due to traffic in the area, it still makes sense to plan for an influx(albeit, less than originally planned) of people to the area.

I was under the impression that it was illegal to fly over area 51 already. I've read that even astronauts have gotten in trouble for "accidentally" pointing a camera at area 51 as they passed over.

The TFR is for the area around the Mercury site into the NNSS, not Groom.

I don't know if prohibited means illegal but every pilot worth his/hers wings wouldn't dare try it. I've often wondered if any civilian is brave enough to hang glide over it, send drones over it, etc.

For a year or two they opened the airspace on weekends and allowed aircraft with a flightplan t.o transit a portion of the airspace. They couldn't go over the base proper, but could get fairly close.

I think area 51 is like Fort Knox, you know what I mean. That's the secret they're protecting.

everyone with half a brain cell working knows not to fly over this because at minimum you will be facing legal troubles out the wazzo if you dont turn back when (not if) they contact you airborn.

if you insist on ignoring them or attempt to evade you can kiss your pilots licence (or the moron that agreed to it) goodbye, criminal charges / record and an interview you will wish you stayed home.

if you even start to get into the airspace you can reasonably expect to disappear for a long time or at worst get to see if god is real or not.

given the internet frenzy that has happened thanks to the numb nutz that started this and that already a few morons have tried (and failed) on foot .
they are trying to prevent a problem during the day/week this was supposed to happen.

now the realist in me says let anyone who is STUPID ENOUGH to actually try to get on the base face the consequences of their actions in full measure... be arrest or win a darwin award.

but someone is gonna say I am too mean.....
