Sometimes "scientists baffled" or "boffins bamboozled" is another good one they use , but its totally appropriate for them to use it because the
scientists often just say we arent sure why its doing this or behaving this way , we cant be certain.
For example they are often baffled by the behaviour of superfluids as they exhibit behaviour which goes against the expected behviour as based on
observation. Superfluids can exhibit behaviour which goes against classical mechanics and when it does it baffles the scientists.
If anything that is just really cool because it means we have discovered something new!
