Us and them. After all, we are just ordinary men. Haven't you heard, it's just a battle of words?

Us and them
And after all we're only ordinary men

Me and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do

"Forward!" he cried
From the rear
And the front rank died
And the general sat
And the lines on the map
Moved from side to side

Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who?

Up and down
And in the end it's only round and round and round

"Haven't you heard
It's a battle of words?"
The poster bearer cried.
"Listen, son,"
Said the man with the gun,
"There's room for you inside."

"Well, I mean, they're gonna kill ya, so like, if you give 'em a quick sh...short, sharp shock, they don't do it again.
Dig it? I mean he got off light, 'cause I could've given him a thrashin' but I only hit him once.
It's only the difference between right and wrong, innit? I mean good manners don't cost nothing, do they? Eh?"

Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about

With, without
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?

Out of the way
It's a busy day
I've got things on my mind
For want of the price
Of tea and a slice
The old man died

Possibly one of Floyd's most underrated songs. I've always loved it.

And no. I don't think humans are gonna make it long-term. We're gonna find a way to mess things up no matter how good the intentions may be (and they're usually not very good).

No the atheists and so called humanists will kill us all off claiming we are over populated and ignoring (or being too dumb to realize) the vast amounts of non forest arable land around the world that is going unused and the vast tracts of land that are also unpopulated - often because they were either too cold, remote or arid for people of the past though with today's technology they no longer are.
And then there is hydroponics which can produce organic crop's far healthier and at a far higher yield than even GM grown traditionally in the same space could ever accomplish - but the chemical and pharmacorp do not want that to ever become the norm as they make so much money out of killing heritage/heirloom variety's off and forcing farmers to buy there pesticide dependant GM seed instead.

And Religions do not get on, if you know the truth and your neighbour also knows the truth but his truth is not your truth or even if you follow a pacifist philosophy if your truth is not his truth then the outcome is usually massacre.

And then there are supporters of different football team's.

Supporters of different politics etc.

In the biblical sense we are in babble, we could accomplish so much more if we worked together BUT would we work toward the correct goal?.

But we can live in hope.

As for Floyd, well I prefer some of Roger Waters solo work more but still they were cool if a tiny bit dated now, I was more of a tangerine dream, Vangelis and even some Mike Oldfield listener myself when the mood struck me and dark side of the moon never did it for me (which given it is one of the most popular albums of all time put's me in the minority but hey) though let's be fair another brick in the wall was a classic for it's time.

Roger waters Home was almost prophetical.

Oh, God!
Sole has no eyes.
Could be Jerusalem, or it could be Cairo
Could be Berlin, or it could be Prague
Could be Moscow, could be New York
Could be Llanelli, and it could be Warrington
Could be Warsaw, and it could be Moose Jaw
Could be Rome
Everybody got somewhere they call home
When they overrun the defences
A minor invasion put down to expenses
Will you go down to the airport lounge
Will you accept your second class status
A nation of waitresses and waiters
Will you mix their martinis
Will you stand still for it
Or will you take to the hills
It could be clay and it could be sand
Could be desert
Could be a tract of arable land
Could be a house, could be a corner shop
Could be a cabin by a bend in the river
Could be something your old man handed down
Could be something you built on your own
Everybody got something he calls home
When the cowboys and Arabs draw down
On each other at noon
In the cool dusty air of the city boardroom
Will you stand by a passive spectator
Of the market dictators
Will you discreetly withdraw
With your ear pressed to the boardroom door
Will you hear when the lion within you roars
Will you take to the hills
Will you stand, will you stand for it
Will you hear, ohhhh! ohhh! when the lion within you roars
Could be your father and it could be your mother
Could be your sister, could be your brother
Could be a foreigner, could be a Turk
Could be a cyclist out looking for work. Norman
Could be a king, could be the Aga khan
Could be a Vietnam vet with no arms and no legs
Could be a saint, could be a sinner
Could be a loser or it could be a winner
Could be a banker, could be a baker
Could be a Laker, could be Kareem Abdul Jabar
Could be a male voice choir
Could be a lover, could be a fighter
Could be a super heavyweight, or it could be
something lighter
Could be a cripple, could be a freak
Could be a wop, gook, geek
Could be a cop, could be a thief
Could be a family of ten living in one room on relief
Could be our leaders in their concrete tombs
With their tinned food and their silver spoons
Could be the pilot with God on his side
Could be the kid in the middle of the bomb sight
Could be a fanatic, could be a terrorist
Could be a dentist, could be a psychiatrist
Could be humble, could be proud
Could be a face in the crowd
Could be the soldier in the white cravat
Who turns the key in spite of the fact
That this is the end of the cat and mouse
Who dwelt in the house
Where the laughter rang and the tears were spilt
The house that Jack built
Where the laughter rang and the tears were spilt
The house that Jack built
Bang, bang, shoot, shoot
White gloved thumb, Lord thy will be done
He was always a good boy his mother said
He'll do his duty when he's grown, yeah
Everybody's got someone they call home

The Wall was an undeniable masterpiece but I prefer DSOTM, TBH. And Roger's solo work is awesome. (Amused To Death is better than Radio KAOS and Pros And Cons but I have listened to them all many times).

Roger was always a good lyricist and this proves it.....

Those were probably some of his best lyrics even if you count everything he did with Floyd. But he did some good ones on Animals too (Dogs was better than anything on The Wall, TBH).

Religions get on, people don't, people with pride.
