Anakylosis is the belief that all governments follow a set cycle..
It is very similar to an extension of the “wood shoes/silk shoes concept”..
The thought that a rough neck “wooden shoe”culture would conquer a region, but then become complacent and start wearing silk shoes . Only to be then conquered by another wooden shoe culture.
Now most modern philosophers do not really agree with that but I digress...
Well the Greeks had a cycle they thought all governments follow..
1. monarchy -some charismatic leader basically takes over.
2. kingship- the charismatic leader takes absolute power
3. tyranny- the charismatic leader begins abusing that power
4. aristocracy- the best of society put down the tyrant and take control.
5. oligarchy- the aristocracy brings abusing their power
6. democracy- the populous seized power from the oligarchs
7. Mob rule- the populous devolves into mob rule.
8,1) was rinse repeat..
A charismatic leader seizes most of the power.
And it is pretty fair to say that at least America followed that very same path..
So are we on the precipice of a mob rule that takes us back to a monarchy or are those damn Greeks just crazy?
Before they separated from England..
The American revolution would be between numbers 3 and 4..
4. aristocracy- the best of society put down the tyrant and take control.
6. democracy- the populous seized power from the oligarchs

I posit that the US actually was Mob Rule before it became a Democracy. Many of the acts that lead to the Declaration of Independence were groups of disenfranchised people sinking ships, tar and feathering officials, burning houses, and writing treasonous pamphlets - "Mobs."
You have a lot to learn on US History.

I was once the same.
Nice part is, I didn't need a 12 step program to get out of it.
I just got disgusted at the stupidity of my "peers" and left.

Personally, I loved all those 12 step programs....
Great place to prey on those vulnerable women.
Ohh, and Jesus....and such....

Are you being pedantic? The US is a Proportionally Representive Democratic Constitutional Republic. Does that help?
Or how about the definition of Democracy - Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives. Does that help?
John Adams called the new country a Representive Democracy.
The Federalist no 10 called for a Rep Democracy and outlined how it was better than a Pure Democracy.
