Player behavior in multiplayer games (specifically FO76)

I'm a Fallout game fan; I've played 3, LV, 4 and now 76. I'm on the last official mission in 76. It's a multiplayer which I've played, by and large, solo. It's been interesting to see the range of human behavior in Fallout 76. On the one hand, we have the jerks who will stop by and try to provoke a fight by attacking you or your camp. I've had to server hop twice to get away from them. One, yesterday, kept attacking me until I walked over to stand next to the level 93 guy who had teamed up with me while I was only level 53. That stopped the attack. (BTW, I'm in passive mode. If someone wants to do PvP, they need to go to another version of the game like Survival mode, find a different player than myself, etc. Not interested personally.)

And then, on the other hand, you have people like the level 93 person above. He gifted me with valuable in-game things and helped me achieve one goal that would have been impossible alone and sped up a process that would have taken one week otherwise. With him, it lasted one day. There was also the person who, early in the game, dropped thousands of rounds of ammo for me. It made all the difference in the world. There were two others, also, who helped me take really difficult positions just because I asked for help. Both went through the high-level enemies like hot knives through butter. I pay it forward, gifting lower-level players with things. Once I wrap up the last mission, I will definitely help them with goals if they want help.

Interesting how, even in a game: here are the a$$hats, and over here are the heroes and the generous. On these two ends of the bell curve, it seems to be evenly split in terms of numbers, with a slight edge to the good guys. It's been interesting, given that I have only played solo RPG and FPS games in the past.

I played 76 for about a week after Xmas.
And I was surprised by the community of in-game players.
Before I was even out of the vault, I had a msg from someone saying they had a welcome package for me.
Dude hit me up with some valuables to get me started.
Then during a couple of events, I was attempting to solo, a couple of high level dudes came in and cleaned house for me.

Haven't touched the game since, but I had a good experience with it.

The COD community is TOXIC.
BF3-4 is hit or miss.
DayZ has some good clans.
Others are toxic newb hunters.

Ive been playing Generation Zero for the past while now.
I mainly solo, but has the option for 4 player co-op.

I'm glad to hear you encountered some great players too. Welcome package, huh? I'll have to do that too when I'm done with this last mission. Meanwhile, I'm just pondering how to put together enough ammo for this last leg.
That scorch beast queen fight yesterday....holy cow. What a dustup. Not much .50 left even after using all of my steel to make more rounds.

Thanks for info on other games.

I play GTA 5 online a lot and they recently added a casino update. Just like in real life the Casino attracts all kinds of goons attacking and shooting at people trying to come to or leave the casino. Not that there are mass shootouts in real world casino parking lots but generally the areas around casinos see an uptick in crime. Some people are just miserable in real life, they feel small and powerless so they go online to bully others where they can feel big and in control without real world consequences.

Nothing beats the legendary 2006 funeral raid from World of Warcraft. A girl died in real life, so her Horde friends and guildmates organized a big in-game funeral for her at one of her favorite spots.
And then the Alliance raided them and mercilessly slaughtered everyone mid-funeral.

I’m torn by that. It’s thoughtful and amazing. It’s sick and disturbed. It’s hilarious.

Yes.

Meanwhile, there are the other players who make your day. This teammate? He spent the day helping me do the last mission. It would have been so impossible without him.

Wow! They they really expect not to get sidewinded if they advertised it? Are they not aware what people would do on a forum like online games which have no rules and regulations?

In my experience, which to tell the truth I have not played online games for years now, over 7 years now. I tried to get back into it some years ago, mostly shooters, as its a great way to just to wind the day down, but just not into it anymore.

But ya! When I was playing videogames, many many many years ago. There are basically two types of people online, the dushsnizzle and the dipshizzle, its all just trolls and wacky fun. Used to even be friends with a guy whos online monkier was 7 bans and counting, on a game, which you had to have literally thousands of people complaining about you, to even get considered about being banned once.

So ya, that kind of behavior is pretty normal in online multiplayer games. I think there are two places were you can watch people as they really are, in online multiplayer games, and at the bar when there # stinking drunk.
