Learning that my perceptions are flawed and/or not representative of all helps me to integrate better with groups, which is a nut I've been trying to crack for years. Thank you.

No, matter of fact, she dresses quite modestly.
Which is my point, the print on the material shouldn't matter one bit.

(Bolding mine.) I agree. Shouldn't.

But. My opinion? It does. Now we're back on page 1.

Such is life, I guess.

Correction, it does to some people. To some people in the world a strand of hair is enough to get you stoned.

I guess the question is it the leopard print wrong, or is the lens looking at the leopard print?

You are reiterating a point I made earlier, namely, that this is an interesting case study in connotation. There doesn't seem to be a clear right or wrong, and many factors will influence one's thinking on the matter.

For instance, summarizing from earlier in the thread, mamabeth (I think) said she associates leopard print with Peggy Bundy, which loosely supports my main idea of the thread. (However, pedantic fans of the classic television franchise will be quick to point out that, while embodying multiple derogatory female stereotypes, "slut" does not neccessarily describe Peggy.)

It seems that, male or female, exposure to certain cultural elements have a key role in the assignment of connotative meanings to objects, aesthetics, etc.

Do you think that is a reasonable assessment?

Even more so, as a man I would completely rely on your opinion about what is appropriate or not on a very young girl as you may be able to understand how other men perceive those things.

This is not an angle that has been explored. Thanks for commenting.

I'll straight up say it. I am a member of the first generation of males warped by the ubiquity of internet porn. It is not my fault that I was sexually broken, but it has been my responsibility to heal myself, and it has been hellish doing so. Not many seem willing to consider the man who survived his boyhood in the wilds of our crappy, broken culture. We've got perspective and wisdom that few seem to care about. I guess that's all part of it for us all...

I think you are a very introspective person which is a breath of fresh air. This has been a good thread and has provided food for thought for me at least.

It is a reasonable assessment. My daughter loved all forms of cat prints when she was little, leopard, tiger, even images of kittens or larger cats. Now as an adult she wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.
