Media coverage of politics is awful today compared to years ago

Years ago the mass media covered politics differently. What was discussed where matters of public policy. Policy decisions like should we raise or lower the minimum wage. Should we allow prayer in school. Should we negotiate ICBM reduction treaty with the Soviets. Oil executives were brought before Congress to testify why they were gouging the American people when the World is awash in oil supply. Everything was focused on policy discussions. I would love for policy makers to discuss if it is in US national interests to continue dropping 35,000 bombs on Muslims in the Middle East year after year.

Today we have nothing but National Enquirer BS. Everything in politics is about character assassination and attacks on a particular politicians personality. Why was there a picture of Bill Clinton wearing a blue dress for Jeffrey Epstein's office. Did Hillary Clinton participate in pedophilia. Conjecture about who killed Epstein to cover up their pedophilia. Greta Thunberg's yacht trip to America more harmful to environment than flying. Donald Trump rips Democrats for calling supporters "Nazis".

I prefer the days when character assassinations and mud throwing politics were secondary to public policy discussions. Today, changes in public policies are simply not talked about. For me the way mass media covers politics is purely entertainment. I never purchased National Enquirer. If it's just worthless mud throwing entertainment then I choose other forms of entertainment.

I get more entertainment out of playing fantasy football than debating conjecture and opinion on whether or not Bill Clinton is a trans-dressing pedophile. But rock on you warriors of justice trying to get Hillary and Obama indicted. I'm still waiting for them to get arrested. Any day now.

It's fantasy football season!!!!!

Totally with you. Can't wait for Fantasy Football. The whole news business has turned into a national tabloid business. I have to do deep dive searches for news that should be easy to find. Then all the showboat hearings and investigations that go nowhere.

They don't want to talk about how well the economy is doing, how there are more jobs than unemployed people, wages rising, etc. They would rather label 63 million voters as racist instead.

The government sets the tone for honesty. It’s called leadership.

I don’t think we will see a return to genteel news reporting until justice is restored at the Federal level including the DOJ. Until such time it is a mud slinging free for all, with no consequences.
Who here has confidence in the FBI or God forbid the CIA?

I'd say years ago there existed a bit more integrity in news casting and along with it more truth, unbiased truth. Now news is simply a business. And politico's have invaded it to where it scarcely is news but rather propaganda. Same as during the cold war. President Trump has done more to force the industry to clean up than any one person in my lifetime.

a reply to: dfnj2015 A lot of it changed in 2013 when Reps. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) and Adam Smith (D-WA) introduced that ended a ban on domestic propaganda. it also does not help that the MSM is not held accountable when they trash individuals and get away with it. there use to be standards in journalism now its about who can break the story first even if they have to make 15 corrections to the story...

It is as the American people have stated they want it. Opinions over facts, editorialized and exaggerated. As long as people worship at the alter of Fox News, CNN, and their trash "news" it will stay that way.

All other networks have seen that morons like Limbaugh, Hannity, Maddow, and Cuomo have been able to get ratings based on trash news shows and he done their best to follow suit in their "reporting".

OP is never going to live that down

tl;dr: OP is worried something will surface about the beloved Clintons tied to Epstein, and if it does, it's just tabloid fanfare and not actual news.

Did I get it right?

Awwww I was just cheez-whizzin'...I like the OP. I THINK HE'S GREAT!

Completely tongue-in-cheek dfnj. On topic, I have never been tuned in well to political coverage specifically, or news coverage in general. I'm a hypersensitive, thin-skinned guy who's triggered by...well...almost everything, in a way. (Brutal honesty.) I don't particularly enjoy it, so I avoid known triggers, like MSM news.
